Tales from today's commute....

Popped the studded tyre wheelset on for this morning's early commute. Whilst it was 3 degrees at home, and no ice, the back lanes went down to zero and were slippery, so it was a good shout after all. Lovely moonlit ride to a 7am breakfast!

Minus temperatures this morning, along with low lying cloud and some pockets of frost in places. The roads were still wet from yesterday's incessant rain so was wary of any ice. Thankfully none seen or encountered.
Sun is shining so will be cycling the 27 Miles home this afternoon.

Car today as I have man 😷 spent the night sleeping propped up on the pillow as I'm in full sniffle mode ,I don't feel ill but just full of snot and didn't fancy making it any worse.
Good frost this morning too so probably the right decision.

Working from Home, so decided to do another round of the Couch to 5K running programme.
Bloody cold and very icy out. Any sensible person would have stayed under the duvet

right choice , my workplace is dusty so i have been going through tissues like they were on black friday sales.

Been caught out a few times now and it's depressing...pleasant enough on the ride in, but peeing down on the return leg and no waterproofs.
I need to pay more attention to the full day's weather forecast!

No frost here, slightly cold. Afternoon forecast not pleasant! Just needs a small break when I'm riding please.

The evening was a factor behind my decision too, an almost the exact opposite mild, torrential and gales (40+mph). My blinds are shut but it sounds like it has started. I hope you get a break 🙏

A tad milder this morning, 12.5° at 7am. The roads were damp as we had rain for most of the day yesterday.
People must be gearing up for the Christmas holidays as the trains and roads were fairly empty this morning. Not many cyclists out on the roads either.

Very mild, quiet roads, gibbous moon through the clouds, so should have been lovely but somehow just felt really drained. Hey ho, still better than driving.

Why do some drivers think that cyclists are obliged to use the cycle lane instead of riding on the road?

On the way home I'm cycling on the road (as usual) and a car drives up alongside me, window down, now I brace myself - comment incoming... driver shouts "Cycle lane is on the other side!". I just replied "Thanks for the info".

Changed rolling stock today's, this train is more bike friendly. I thought at first it was the 7.24 that stops at all the stations. Fortunately though they announced it as the semi express 7.34. Then I realised when this rolling stock is on the bike carriage is immediately behind 1st class (not 3 carriages back), which it had been.

In contrast to other folks experience this train is busier than usual.

Avoided the worst of the rain and had to take off my waterproof after a couple of miles.

Conversely to @Mazz , why do drivers think its OK to use the cyclelane without checking there is a bike ? Bit of traffic ahead of me and saw a transit cross into the cycle lane and partly up the pavement to undercut a car turning right. Driver next to me decides to do the same. He got a few loud shouts through the window telling him its a ruddy cycle lane. There is a good chance its a work colleague so had to be a little refrained as people know who I am.

Must say the road route is much less mucky in wet weather.

Was pretty damn lucky this morning as it was peeing down when I woke up. Left for work and it was only spitting rain. At the other end, the cycle in was a nice wind assisted ride and the rain held off. Not looking great for the ride home though.

Had a real nasty scare this morning. A cabby driving one of those crappy wedge shaped Prius decided to swerve into the bus lane (illegal use) without looking or indicating as I was scooting along at a rate of knots. There was a left side road and I thought he was turning into there. Luckily he didn't as if he had he would have wiped me out no doubt. Scary moment.
