I also find some usernames funny, not just on dating sites, but on any forums *cough*. For example, from dating sites, anything that relates to genitalia size, or "looking4u". How can you be looking "4" me if we're yet to meet?!

It makes sense to me ... (The 'looking4' not the genitalia thing!) I'm looking for (4) a way to make a million and retire, but I haven't found it yet!

Haha I guess. But you don't know you want to meet a person, surely? The point of meeting them is then that you know you want them. Or something

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Is it just me, or is asking for advice about a generic dating site on a forum catering for a particular hobby slightly skew-whiff? Particularly a forum which regularly organises informal social events and (given that the person asking is an F seeking a M) has a strongly straight male bias. More couples seem to meet at work or while doing a hobby rather than through random dating.

I know there are several couples active on here. I also know that more than one of them met through an event organised through the forum.

You can't count Rich and Noods as they claim its purely platonnic

The thing with online dating is that you can (supposedly ) find your ideal match there. People don't tend to join a forum to date others with the same hobby. That's what things like "uniform dating" are for, I imagine. As with anything, it all works out okay if both parties are genuine and want the same thing. Therein lies la problema

What you see on these dating sites is not what you get because most people find it hard to be totally honest about themselves.I can't imagine that I'd be inundated with replies if I placed this truthful advert on Match.com:

'Intellectually challenged male 65, with short legs, no SOH and in desperate need of a personality transplant WLTM a sexy, fun loving lady who enjoys dining out at McDonalds, travelling by bus and who'd love to spend romantic evenings in my bedsit listening to my extensive collection of Gary Glitter and Tiny Tim records .'
No chance.
That ad would certainly get trashed by me.
