A query re above. I am currently with BT who are getting greedier by the day. The service from BT is good; much better than the useless AOL I used to have which kept losing connection and then involved a call to their Mumbai call centre and a lengthy process to fix it. I am under the impression that AOL merged with TalkTalk, so am I heading for trouble if I change?

Their prices are very competitive; about £18 per month for unlimited BB, and that includes line rental. I have a BT line, but the TalkTalk adviser tells me that they would take over the line from BT so that I pay TT line rental, and NOT BT..

This stuff is a minefield to me and very confusing! Being a natural cynic, I don't trust any of these big companies to do what they initially promise. I don't do a lot of downloading, but my current BT contract only gives me 10gb BB allowance per month. I have just had an e-mail from them telling me I have already used 6gb of my August allowance - and it's only the 9th day. Of course they want me to sign up to a more expensive contract for unlimited BB, which prompted me to look elsewhere.

Talk talk would rent the line from bt(open reach) then rent it to you so yes you would pay your bill to talk talk not bt .Talk talk package is competively priced . there call centres are also in India as are most company's . From a tech point of view the only thing that would alter is a connection in the exchange and probably a new router at your end . Do you have fibre bb ? If available bt normally offer a good upgrade deal also worth talking bt advising them you might be changing supplier and they may offer a new deal worth a phone call . If you have sky TV their complete package TV phone bb is very competitve. Downloading also included watch stuff on you tube not just actual downloading

we were with BT where I thought "£18 per month for 18 months" meant just that. By the end of the contract I was paying somewhere around £30 per month. Their interpretation of the small print was "£18 per month at the moment but we can increase it any time, and you'll be tied to us for 18 months" Not happy!
Their service was OK (It worked), but the support was the worst I have ever experienced.
We're now with plusnet (which is also BT) but there's no comparison. The price is what they told us it would be. Support is UK based. Phones are answered very quickly by people who know their stuff and can actually do something about it. Small bonus is that you get a discount every month if you recommend someone and they join up. Very happy.
BT joined the list of companies never to do business with.

We were with TalkTalk (spit) never again. After we left them they were hacked and we used to get at least 1 mostly 2 calls a week from 'Talk Talk' informing us of a problem and helped to fix it, all we have to do is switch on our computer, obviously it was a scam but our details were obtained. They charged us a lot of money yet we had dreadful broadband service amongst other things. I would not touch them with a bargepole :headshake:

... and if you do leave BT, remember to stop the direct debit. Otherwise they keep on taking. I got months of letters saying I hadn't paid. The call-centre just didn't understand!

This is what I fear with TT.. I swore blind when I left AOL that I would have nothing more to do with them, and I suspect that TT/AOL are much the same. I would like to stick 2 fingers up to BT, purely because of their greed, but will need to look at some of the other options mentioned on here.

@Brandane, for the love of God DO NOT TOUCH TALKTALK. When something goes wrong, they are utterly useless. Last week, I discovered that my outgoing emails, though marked as sent, where not reaching their destinations. I reported this to TT on 5th August. They said ring back on 6th. I spent three hours on the phone that day, dealing with three different people who gave me three different stories, including the explanation that it was all to do with my computer and that TalkTalk was blameless. I finally let an engineer take control of my PC and rummage around in Windows Live Mail to look at the server settings, all of which were perfect. They finally admitted that there was a problem. I asked them to send an incident number by text message. It duly arrived saying that they would keep me informed "shortly". I rang the engineers back 24 hours later but you can't actually get through to speak to anybody once you have reported a fault. Their automated service spots the fact that the phone number you are calling from is the one that reported the fault and you get a recorded message saying "We are working on the fault. Please ring back in 72 hours. Thanks, goodbye". I'm not particularly confident that they will have it fixed by Monday night. TalkTalk are utter shite.
BTW, my wife has a business broadband line with BT. By complete coincidence she had a problem last week as well. BT fixed it within ninety minutes.

I won't be switching to TalkTalk; after reading your post I am having flashbacks to my days with AOL..

I'm more than delighted to be of service!
I was never going to take a lot of dissuasion to be honest . I expected that this thread would confirm my fears of TT..
I might just have to bend over and take it from BT.. Sometimes it's better the devil you know. They're still a bunch of greedy shysters though. As are NPower, Bank of Scotland, all insurance companies, all our local trades persons, all employers in the haulage industry, etc. etc..

Which? did a review of eleven broadband suppliers. The top four had customer satisfaction ratings above 70% (John Lewis, Zen, Utility Warehouse and PlusNet). TalkTalk came second last on 48% and was slated for its technical support.

I somehow ended up with a talktalk calls and line rental package years ago so swapping to fibre broadband was a simple affair.

Must be 3 years in now, having migrated from ADSL24 - People said I was mad because they'd heard bad things, those people now have Talktalk also. 80mb unlimited fibre BB, usually speedtests 65mb+ Can't fault it,and now all internet/phone related bills are in one direct debit
