I don't normally set targets I just enjoy my cycling.
I agree with that approach, but I wanted some extra motivation to get out so I did set myself some targets this year. I chose to try and ride a 10 miles a day average, or 3,650 miles for the year. I am currently 81 miles ahead and only need to average 9 miles a day for the rest of 2014.

I don't have a commute to do, and have a stark choice between busy undulating roads and quiet hilly ones. The weather here can also be very changeable. That means that there were lots of days where I used to dither and end up not going out. Now, I make more of an effort, even if the ride is only 10 or 11 miles. I didn't used to bother doing anything less than my 19 mile Cragg Vale loop which has 1,500 ft of climbing and that took some motivation in cold/damp/misty/windy conditions!

I have a commute thats about 13 miles a day, I have a car now so I could just drive to work but the bikes more fun and less cost so I'm only driving once or twice a week, I tend to ride 3 Sunday mornings out of 4, normally somewhere between 50 and 70 miles a ride, I have the 4th Sunday as part of a rest weekend or I get tired and lose my mojo, I think my mileage is somewhere around 3700 miles so far this year, apart from the Fixed Gear 100 and the Audax this year has been a pretty standard year for cycling for me.

Just to keep pushing myself with longer and harder (hillier) routes. I started riding in Feb, did my first century in June and followed the route of the Peaks Epic yesterday, 63 miles and 7,300ft of climbing with 7 categorised climbs. Heading towards that magic 10,000ft in a ride which to me is massively harder than a flat/relatively flat century. I found the 103 I did in June with 3,500ft of elevation relatively easy, yesterday's 63 miles was a lot harder.

Well in everyone making their targets this year.
I can't say I set any myself but I did manage to follow-up on one of those drunken self-promises which was to cycle from here to the Grand Depart in Yorkshire.
I also rode my first Audax and by the time I'd ridden to/from the start/finish clocked 144 miles, the furthest I've ridden in a day.
It's been a great year cycling-wise, it's really opened my eyes to what's possible.

7,320 miles for the year (that's 20 miles a day). Currently running about 459 miles ahead. Plus 26 imperial centuries (19 done to date) as part of the century a month challenge. I wanted to do at least one imperial century a month on fixed, but I missed April due to various circumstances, so that'll be rolled forward to next year.

I don't have an annual mileage target any more. It seems fairly constant at about 4-5k which is easy if you commute 11 miles a day and do some gentle pootles at the weekend. My challenge has always been to do the Brighton FNRttC without stopping on the three hills. I managed it twice last year, for the first time, but got defeated by Ditchling on my only attempt this year. My other target is to beat 30.6 mph down Broomfield Hill in Richmond Park. It scares me but it's quite addictive.

Personal goals for this year - to ride a little faster; specifically to be able to ride 20 miles in under an hour solo (achieved!) and to manage a long 23 for a 10 mile TT ( still to do - next season I hope!)

If you include about 300 turbo miles, I'm currently on just over 4000 for the year, so should top 5k for the year.

I set several targets set this year
Beat last years mileage figure (4115) currently on 2985 so should reach that
Cycle 1000 miles in a month: work got in the way of this one but managed to get a pb of 806 in May
Cycle 5000 miles in 2014 Not going to happen, roll over to next year

Not exactly 'a plunge' if you think it's gonna be easy before you've started. Come on Ed, give yourself a challenging target.
