Hi guys,
Hoping you may be able to help solve a conundrum for me. This weekend I had my tattoo on my back done. Not a problem, but it is where my bag I use to commute with rests. I am back on my bike tomorrow for the commute and wondered if anyone has any advice to help keep the tattoo OK?

Is it even something to worry about?

I am ready to be shot down and called stupid, even though I am sure we have all asked silly questions in our lives. I know my kids do all the time, then I remember they just dont know yet.

Cheers

James

I'd try not to have anything rub against it till healed to be on the safe side....you've chosen and paid out for the ink would be a shame to not let it heal properly.

Get some Bepanthen (barrier cream or nappy rash cream) on it, clingfilm yourself up and wear 5 big woolly jumpers to protect the tattoo and you will be fine. Or use the car until it heals just to be on the safe side. You don't want to mess it up.

Bapanthen covered by clingfilm.

I had a big chest piece done and gave it a few days, but for the following week or two clingfilmed it for my commutes as some of it fell where my bib shorts sit. Don't ruin good ink!

I'm hoping that the tattoo was this:

Sure i read that the formula for bapanthem had changed and it was no longer recommended for tats Something about an increase in the amount of lanolin in it blocking pores and causing allergic reactions?

can you put your rucksack on backwards - ie on your chest, obviously dependent on how big the back piece is and if the straps would touch it.

you certainly don't want anything chafing, apart from being painful it will undo the (hopefully) good work

Boots used to do a cream called forever ink. I used it on my tattoos and it was great.. Cheap too..
Agree with above don't wear the bag.. for at least 6 weeks or so I would say.
Also been told bepanthem has changed and isnt recommended.
And don't use clingfilm as it makes the tattoo sweat and will not heal as fast and may 'split'.

A tattoo is a wound to the skin. It needs to breath to heal. Clingfilm is ok for getting home or keeping it clean immediately afterwards if you off out. But once home, take it off and let it breath.
