Coming home the other morning I was cycling up a hill in a residential area, lots of parked cars, little room for overtaking.

I can hear a car pretty much right up my backside, and at the first slim chance he's off, barely missing me, then he mounts the pavement TWICE at speed to pass a bin lorry and another waiting vehicle, drawing in round the corner where he sits idling waiting on his hire.

Taking the opportunity I let North Lanarkshire Council cab No68 know exactly what I thought of his driving skills. Twunt.

I had to get a black cab (no 45 salford Council) recently for an hospital appointment that was at 8am.
He went the longest possible way round, £8.20 from Salford shopping precinct to Manchester Royal Infirmary. He went through a red light and then at the hospital, as I was trying o get his licence plate, he drove at at least 30 miles above the hospital's 10MPH speed limit! I was late cos of his route, so didn't have time to argue about his behaviour.

I can't decide what infuriates me the most, the arrogance of the black cab drivers or the incompetence of minicabs

Hah, I just remembered a trip to London when I was a child when we encountered a mini-cab driver who didn't know where Tower Bridge was!

I think it's been sold to the Americans.

Had a Taunton one overtake me on the right, as I was in the middle of the road, turning right into the station to pick up a ticket a couple of weeks ago. Moron.

I once pulled up behind a Taxi that was indicating a right turn at a 'T' junction.
He then changed his mind and indicated a left turn.
After a few seconds wait, he next started to reverse (onto my front wheel)
His plastic rear bumper folded to an inverted V shape as it climbed up my front wheel pushing me backwards for about a foot before he realised that I was there.
Amazingly my front wheel appeared to be ok, and although I was well rattled by the experience, so was I.
To calm the situation down he gave me his address plus 40 quid to buy a new wheel
The bike was my go to work hack bike from the local dump and the front wheel is still ok today (Apart from it being very wary of taxi drivers that is)

The problem with minicabs is that they think that they are professional drivers, rather than people giving other people lifts for money in a 15 year old Toyota Avensis.

I ride in London all the time and it's rare I have a run in with a black cab, most of the time I find them ok.

It's a bit like me saying BMW drivers are dodgy, whereas they can be I think you need a bit of an open mind.

I find the "Pre Booked" more dodgy just with the style of driving basically.

^^^^^
Oooops
I think possibly you need an open mind with all drivers and not single them out because of what they drive.

That's the sermon for today folks from the book of hackbike 666.Amen.

Spawn of Satan, both types in general (although I had a ride from a Spanish minicab driver a few months back who was one of the best drivers I've ever been in a car with... the exception that proves the rule).

The riskiest time to be travelling in York is when a train from London has just arrived. The black station taxi drivers* are whizzing around like nutters, all hoping to drop their first fare and get a second or third from the same train. They may drive with a modicum of care when they actually have a passenger on board, but on the return leg to the station... well, just don't be in the way.

*By which I mean people of any race driving black taxis.

I caught a black cab back from Heathrow a little over a week ago and I didn't dare tell him I was a cyclist.I was impressed with how he treated cyclists in the rush hour though.

I wasn't going to post this as I was looking to spread happiness and good will, however since it's come up I shall.

I think you'll be able to work out my opinion of some taxi drivers (and I have to say that they seem to be the only driver type that pulls this stunt with this degree of panache and elan). I express my feelings quite loudly, quite clearly and quite bluntly so it would be an idea to turn the sound down if anyone around you might be offended.
