*accepts tea with thanks*

We seem to have a bit of an absentee landlord at the moment. For a while he'd stick his head round the door, smile and vanish, but I haven't seen him for days.

*tries some provocation*

Coffee anyone?:tongue::biggrin:

Did someone mention tea? <hopeful smile> :tongue:

Doctor, I love the Dalek ranged against the lefferants. Now, who would win there? I think the lefferant, as it would pick the dalek up in its trunk from behind, turn it upside down and shake it like a pepper pot until it died of dizzyness and apoplexy.

A friend sent me this - how to make your own singing dancing teddybear Davros out of various novelty toys...

Chuffy, I have to tell you, a mongoose is not a mustelid, it is a member of the family Herpestidae. (I knew the first bit, but had to look the family up on Wiki). You are spot on about Speicher though.

Talking of Speicher, I promised her yesterday a pic of my latest knitting project, which I think will appeal to her recycling spirit. Presenting, the recycled-plastic-carrier-bag-knitted-purse!

Take one decently strong carrier bag (the sort of grade Lakeland use, or M and S). Cut across top and bottom to leave a tube of plastic. Start cutting in a spiral fashion, round and round the tube to produce a continuous strand, preferably of about 4-5mm wide, but it can vary a bit (depends how fast you try to work). Then knit with the strand - I found 10mm needles were best, smaller ones make quite a tight knit. You can do pretty much anythig you'd do with yarn (knit, purl, decrease, increase etc), this was just a strip 15 stitches wise with a tapered end for the flap at the top. Sew up with left over strip, add plaited handle, button etc. This was a single black and white striped no-brand carrier bag (the grey is the back of the black stripes). For bigger things, just tie strips together.

No idea how long-term strong it is, I wouldn't want to carry more than maybe a phone and a small purse in it. But I think it's actually quite funky (not a word I use often!) It took me about an afternoon to make, including the cutting up the bag. I'm really quite pleased with it.

I'd consult my Observer Book of Long Animals but I'm sure you're right.

Any tea going? I haven't had time for a cup. In fact I haven't even had time to change out of my cycling kit yet!

*hands out tea in all directions*

I did have other wooden animals I could deploy if needed, but I'm not sure a zebra, a wild pig and a tortoise would have had much effect.

oh, did you not see the tortoises wrestling on the Cold Blood programme last night? The winner is the one who manages to flip the other onto its back, where it lies there waving its limbs like mad trying to turn back over. If you tipped a Dalek over, it would be pretty helpless, I reckon...

Oh - no, I missed that. Bother.
One of the highlights of a trip to Turkey in March 2006 was seeing loads of tortoises. They had stopped hibernating about a fortnight beforehand, and we must have seen dozens.
The total eclipse was pretty spectacular too.
