Arch, I am sure my colleague will find your version of a reference (for me)very helpful. However, we need to make one major change. The Pump House do not have cakes for sale. There is however, Fair trade cookies and chocolate, is that OK, if we change it?

Yes, that will do very well. In fact the Fairtrade reference may help to further stress your good nature.

Also, try taking a selection of cookies to any interview to hand round...

Landslide, whats up with your hub then? I mean, yes, it's collapsed, but what are the symptoms? Not that I have any suggestions off hand, but maybe if you can treat the syptoms, rather than the problem, that'll do to get you home...

It's like having really loose cones, the problem being that when I had a poke at it with a couple of spanners the cones weren't loose and the axle hadn't snapped. They're hand-me-down wheels (that I'm using 'til I replace the rims that met the Range Rover), and they were pretty unloved - corroded cones and bearing surfaces. My guess is that one of the bearing surfaces has collapsed, so I think the treatment may involve slinging the bike in the back of a taxi!

So, is the wheel not rotating freely then, or just wobbling a lot? If the later, then just ride it, but don a clowns costume first, and play comic music as you ride.. If the former... Um...

No, I'm a bit stumped...

Landers, you need Bonj's unwanted wheel!!

I do wonder about Bonj being the Dark Lord of the Velo.
What with the mudguard amnesty having failed in the last few days his power to induce fatigue in people and metals alike can only be stronger than we first thought!

Right I'm off home to put in a hard 4 or 5 hours sorting out my laptop and stuff. Well, I'll take an hour for lunch... And a couple of tea breaks...

Anyway, I should be back later....

I find the metal flap that holds it to the bridge between the seat stays has sheared right through.

When I was clearing up the workshop the other day, I found one of those metal flap thingies, new and unused. Assuming I can find it again, would you like it?

After all, you did knit me two tea cosies...

Over-freely! I don't think I'll risk it, as the wobbling makes cornering rather "interesting"!
Have you had a look inside to see how many balls are still in the bearing? You may be able to recover enough to share out to spread the load on the cones. Unless there is sufficient damage that the balls won't stay in.

I need more tea today, feeling very dehydrated.

I'm having a quick cuppa now.
Just raided B&Q. They had random hardware packs for £1 a bag so I bought £25 worth of brass hinges saving about £30-£40.

Been wondering about the Aldi gasless mig welder at £99.99 too.
