The big problem I have now is that I'm in Finland for a year and it cost me a bit to get here. I need the finance soon, very soon or the rent is going to be late and I don't want to go explaining that as I find it embarrasing. Maybe that's just me but I don't like going cap in hand.

Aye - it's not good. The plus side for WMnr is that he's only 20 miles away, so I can pop up with emergency aid. Bit more difficult to do that when the one in need is in Finland. I commiserate. Does the university/student union you're at have the equivalent of some sort of hardship/emergency fund you can apply to?

<bangs head on desk>

NEVER rely on the word of an academic when it comes to admin. No matter how clever and lovely they are....

"oh, no, your extension is all sorted, no need to fill anything in..."

Anyway, I've filled that form in now...

Argh! Really, these things always happen when you're up against the stops... If I wasn't about to be away for a week, the deadline wouldn't have been quite so urgent... Still, it's not as bad as not having your money, I realise. Hope that gets sorted out in all the many and various places where it's happened...

Still, I've been a busy bee today. Got a haircut, checked my bank balance to make sure I wouldn't go overdrawn while I was away, got some money out of the Halifax (holiday money, not panic withdrawal...), changed it to Euro's, rode over to the office with a book the editor needed to photograph, came back, had a huge amount of hoummous for lunch (needed finishing off), even did a little bit of PhD, came into Kings Manor, cooed over my colleagues new baby, had the whole extension form drama (cue much running about betwen offices getting things filled in), and now I'm here.

Is the kettle on?
