Harvest mice eat pretty much anything! It's said that they don't drink - they get all their moisture from eating fruit and squishy insects. I don't know if that's true though. Sometimes they seem a bit dozy when we catch them, and a bit of apple or carrot perks them up.

They probably mostly eat seeds - weed seeds, crop seeds and the like, and fruit of all kinds - blackberries, rosehips, sloes, holly berries - you name it. There's more of it about than you think and plenty to keep you going if you only weigh 7 grams. They'll eat mealworms, and I would think that they would eat other squishy things if they find them. They seem to spend their time climbing about above the ground, so probably don't come across many squishy invertebrates normally.

Most wild small mammals will try to bite you when you handle them, (woodmice are particularly bad-tempered and vicious) but harvest mice are incredibly laid back and don't seem to care. That's part of their charm.

On a more serious topic. my coffee table leg. It is not so much the value of said table but that it is the largest of three of a nest ;) of tables, which I have had for twenty-five years, and which match the rest of the twenty-five year old furniture in the lounge. I think I may have leant on the table. The leg had come unscrewed slightly, and when weight was put on the table, the leg went to one side, and the strength in the screw into the top of the table bit, meant that the table top has split slightly along the horizontal plane for about an inch and a half.

Can I glue the table top bit back together, and what with? I think I have a small clamp which would clamp it back together while the glue dried. I do not think I will tackle the repair in the next week or so. There is an excellent local family firm that do furniture repairs, for a reasonable remuneration. If I have to buy special glue or risk bodging the table, would I be better asking someone to repair it, who knows what they are doing? I know you know what you are doing, but sadly you are not in Worcester.

He's a harvest mouse, by the way. Isn't he charming?

The cats tell me he's more tasty than charming... ;)

But you need a few for a good meal.;)

The felines view him as a mere starter before getting down to the main course, which is:-

rat (male, fully-grown..big b*gg*r, a speciality of Marble)
rabbit
deer (Waffles has tried to fell the odd deer that wanders into the garden..)
pigeon
pheasant (Waffles has launched herself out of a foirst floor window in an attempt to catch a pheasant, and Marble has caught pheasants & brought them home)
goose (Waffles & Francis stalked several Canada geese that landed in an adjacent field.. it was like watching lions stalking wildebeeste on the Serengeti..)
trout (all the cats try to work out a way of catching the trout in the stream at the end of the garden, without getting wet)

But I could be if you wanted me to be.;)
I can bring my bike too if you fancied a ride.

If you pm me a photo I will have a look at what the best way to proceed would be. We could take it from there.
