I am of course very lucky to have Mrs. tdr1nka who can smell a cheap fare offer and has booked me travelling to Sheffield, 1st Class for only 11 of your earth pounds!

The fact I will arrive for the train after sweaty 20 min ride, relax with free tea, sticky buns and wi-fi for 2 1/2hrs. to then arrive at Sheffield for a 20 mile run to Bakewell,(much uphill and on A roads)I feel the glamour of the First Class Accomodation somewhat wasted on me!

Virtual Bakewell pudding on Monday?;)

Pfffft!;)
I asked for some Bakewell Tart...no, that's coming out wrong too. I described the eponymous comestible as a Bakewell Tart, and was sternly advised that it was called Bakewell Pudding, and any nancy southerner who forgot it would be head-first in the river, or some such.
It was very tasty and quite satisfying. Like so many things in life.

Taking the biscuit
I remember the evening well....the Annual Jane Austin Feminist book group festival........

Also to avoid any similar lynching scenarios, don't talk about monkeys in Hartlepool. You have been warned.

Off to St. Pancs to reserve my bike space now!

I'll be back.

Why in the name of all that's purple would I be in Hartlepool in the first place?
*not sure where it is*
That's where they confused a monkey with a Frenchman, yes?
Easy mistake to make I suppose. They'd probably not seen a Frenchman before. Or a monkey, come to that.

Hic!;)

I travelled first class once y'know. I won a pair of tickets to London, in a raffle. Mum and I travelled 1st, and my sister came along, in steerage, because she didn't mind and was only going to be plugged into her walkman all the way anyway. When we got to London, of course, we were at the front of the train, not so far to walk to get out of the station, but of course we still had to stand and wait for sis to make her way all the way down the platform....

One day, if I could find a cheap way, it would be nice to make the trip to Winchester in 1st - for 5 hours, I guess it makes a difference!

Hartlepool is on the North East coast, I believe, between my bit (Yorkshire) and the Geordie bit...

York - Winchester...
Is that down to Kings Cross? Let me know next time you're doing it and I'll come and wave at Stevenage station.

Ah, KC is from York, that was from Leicester, so it was St Pancras. I am hoping I'll get down there soon to see the new station complex....

Haven't been to London for months. Want to get down to see the Terracotta Army sometime..

It's quite impressive, but I was sadly disappointed with the champagne bar. it's a small bar, with lots and lots of tables alongside one of the Eurostar platforms. I was expecting something in marble or zinc about half a mile long. Like a pub bar extending over the horizon...
Lovely Arched (so to speak) cast iron and glass roof though. Went through there on the way to Paris a fortnight ago.xx(
