Just done an experiment.
Had lunch: a couple of poached eggs on toast.
One egg was a Tesco Organic free-range egg. 'Best before' date of 11 May 08, so it's well within the sell-by date. The other egg is the really fresh egg laid by Anode this morning.
The eggs were poached together in the same pan, so same water, same pan, same termperature, same duration of cooking...
Tesco egg:-
Anode egg:-
That shows the difference between an egg bought in a supermarket (even a high welfare standard egg) and a *really fresh* egg
There was a difference in taste/texture too. Both were good. Anode's egg was, however, a softer texture of white than the Tesco egg. The yolk of Anode's egg was a much deeper yellow, a golden yolk (probably because she now gets corn in her feed) and as can be seen in the pics, the white of Anode's egg holds around the yolk much better than the supermarket egg - a true sign of just how fresh an egg is.
Now - back to normal transmission as opposed to revealing just how anally retentive I am getting about the girls...
