Have we actually seen these supposed chickens? I've got a feeling Waffly is just slouching into the kitchen and fetching eggs out the fridge, I bet there's a best before date on the back of those.
She's just trying to convey a sort of hard working good life image to impress us all!
Own up waffly, or show us your broilers.

Here's a pic of the girls the day I got them and introduced them to their new home. Anode is on the left & Cathode on the right.

For ex-batts, they're in not too bad a condition. They are, however, shwoing their best side. On the front of their necks, they're missing feathers (due to wearing away stretching out of the battery cage to reach food) and also missing feathers on their sides & bots. Luckily only one was debeaked (Cathode) & she only a tiny bit. Their claws were very overgrown.

I'm going to try to get some more pics, to show the difference in them over time. Already they are starting to grow new feathers, and their combs are pinking up nicely. Their claws are a better length already as they get out & scratch about on the bottom of the run.

Once they've settled in *properly* and have perked up even more, I'm going to extend the length of run they have.

Edit: each day I see a little bit more *normal* chicken behaviour develop in them, which is great to see. Just goes to show that the birds can recover even after being kept somewhere like this for a year.

Forgot to mention... heard a cuckoo loud and clear today when out in the garden doing lumberjacking with Mr Wafflycat. It must have been close as even Mr W heard it and he's rather deaf.

Nice pair of hens you got there Waffly. Actually I had a pair of chicken farm refugees when I was a lad. I got them as chicks, the farmer gave me a dark one because they apparently get pecked by all the yellow ones, and I took a yellow one to keep it company. They got really big and were surprisingly intelligent, but I was really bad at remembering to feed them and I think my parents got so fed up with doing it for me we had them for dinner instead. They never did lay an egg, but they certainly had a better life than if I'd left them at the farm.

Admin put an announcement up a few days ago I think, about updating the "system" and a scheduled downtime, from 10pm today until 7am tomorrow. It is still in announcements, but not as a "sticky".

Thanks for the tea.
I was trying to reply to an email from a friend at the same time but as the film was all subtitles it is difficult not to keep watching it.

I'm not really that squeamish, I just don't feel there is a need for that much close up detail on ripping people and animals to bits to get the message across. SciFi, something with trucks in or a chick flick does me fine.
Kettle's on.
