I need some tips on my about persuadeing my grandad to get a cab down to the royal London for his radiotherapy. The hospital transport is a nightmare, its not like they cant afford it hes just being stubborn.
Seeing them on Thursday need to try and shift the mood its a 4 hour round trip for 20 mins of treatment its just silly.
Sigh.

Fruit cake just out of the oven!

Here's my recipe

Wafflycat's fruit cake

10oz (275g) self-raising flour
8oz (225g) butter or butter-type spread (e.g. Clover)
8oz (225g) soft brown sugar
Grated rind of 1 orange
5 medium eggs or 4 large eggs (free-range of course, preferably from own hens!)
1¼lbs (575g) dried mixed fruit
7oz (200g) glace cherries (quartered)
1 tablespoon black treacle

Oven setting: Moderate, 310ºF, Gas Mark 2, 150ºC (slightly lower if fan oven)
  1. Grease, with butter, and line a 9-inch round cake tin with baking parchment.
  2. Cream the butter, sugar and orange rind together until the mixture is pale and creamy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition to incorporate the eggs into the mix.
  4. Fold in the flour, alternatively with dried fruit and cherries.
  5. Blend in the treacle last of all.
  6. Spoon the mixture into the cake prepared cake tin and bake for 2 - 2½ hours until cooked. The cake should be risen and have a flat top.
  7. Leave the cake in the tin until completely cool before removing.
If you can, do not eat the same day (difficult at Chez Wafflycat apparently). The cake develops good depth of flavour if wrapped in foil or stored in an airtight tin for up to a week before eating. This can be used as a Christmas cake if the top has small holes skewered in it and brandy, rum or whisky dribbled into it and then wrapped up in foil/placed in tin and left to mature a while longer. Without the alcohol it makes excellent food to take on a long cycle ride!

Is he saying he'd rather use the hospital transport than take a cab?

No he is talking about using the underground which is plain silly in my eyes hes 83 and it would mean going at rush hour.
Its bladder cancer and I believe there are issues with needing the toilet often there.
I mean a cabs going to only be tops 30 quid and they can afford it.
I do not want him driving as to be honest I don't think he should still be driving anyway.
But I dont think it has crossed his mind thankfully.
I just want to make getting into town as easy as possible without taking 3 to 4 hours with the hospital transport.

Yup, you wanna get him in a cab if poss. I understand the trouble, my Mum has been left waiting for hours before and it drains them even more when they're weak enough already, having to sit around.
I guess if your Grandad felt he had 'toilet' issues he wouldn't feel happy going on the tube, so all you really need do is hide the car keys just in case;).

Just explain the comfort factors for him and you, it's not a time for either of you need to be stressed.
