The joys of satnav.. have arrived at Chez Wafflycat.
As MrW's work involves a vast amount of travelling by car to all part of the SE & East Anglia and heading over to the Midlands, for his birthday I bought him a satnav, to save him having to look at maps the whole time when it's just him in the car. Got
One of these ones as it has lots of bells, whistles OS maps... as well as the usual stuff. Got round to fitting it today.
It will be in use tomorrow as I have to get MrW over to the centre of Birmingham. Oh joy... On the plus side, whilst he's doing business stuff, it is of a nature where for once I can go off and do other things. So I'm off to Cadbury World to OD on all things chocolate.
Having fitted the satnav in MrW's car, I was pleasantly surprised it was easy to do and it's quite intuiative to use. So I put in the location of a few local places I know the way to and checked to see how the satnav dealt with directions. I can see how folk can get over-reliant on it and end up going awry. Listening to directions.. getting directions to 'bear left' and 'keep left' when actually going straight on. And being told to 'bear right' when the road is going that way anyway, and if you tried to go any other way you'd drive into that house in front... So it's a case of not just relying on the vocal instructions, but being clear about the bigger picture in the first place. I shall be trying very, very hard not to do anything too stupid
