Fantastic news. Fingers crossed for you :-)

I have a fresh pot on the got BTW if there are any takers.............

Well, it's only a panel meeting, and I still have the meeting itself to get through, but getting the stuff handed in is always nice.

God knows how I'll feel if and when I finally get the whole darn thesis handed in!

Actually, knowing me, I'll probably just go home, treat myself to a chinese takeaway and a beer and watch telly.

After 5 years on and off, it'll feel a bit odd. But that's not until September, and there's a way to go yet...

Blooming typical. I take the afternoon off to surf, having handed the stuff in, and no one's around! I think I'll push off home, via Sainsburys for milk and bread.

What to have for dinner...?

Don't keep us in suspense. Go outside and find out what happened!

Well, it turned out to be a large plate glass window that had broken - kids throwing stones at the side of the museum building. Wonder if it ought to be reported. The window is barred and boarded from the inside, so it's not a security risk. Reckon it's alarmed too.

Made a decent old noise! Like a radio sound effect.

Sorry, Arch. We weren't ignoring you. I was just busy.

Anyway, congratulations - another milestone reached.

Will there be vivas? Or is it plain sailing now to the silly hat parade graduation ceremony?

God no, not yet, 6 months and 60,000 words to go before I even hand in.

This is just a meeting where I try and sound like I know what I'm doing, and care, and my supervisor (bless him) usually tackles the difficult questions the other two ask. TAPs (Thesis Advisory Panel meetings) are supposed to be useful and supportive, but pretty much everyone regards them with terror, or at least trepidation. I usually come out feeling stupid. You have to write up stuff like what you've done since the last TAP (and make it sound impressive), and how you're meeting the timetable (barely!), and usually have a chapter or two as well. I've given in two chapters (both of which still have to be added too) and a further rambling draft/notes of the next chapter as well. Now I need to get enough done before next week to be able to say "oh, yes, I'm much further on now...."...

I try not to think about the viva. Utter terror....

And to cap it all, I'm trying to knit a hot water bottle cover for Mother's Day, and test drive a glove pattern for a friend in the next week.

I need tea!

You'll need a straw if you're going to drink tea and knit at the same time.

Anyway, I'm orf.

Hollow tea supping knitting needles! I'll make a fortune....

I'm off too. I think tonight is a pasta night, unless I find something cheap in Sainsburys.

Belated hurrahs for shifting some of your thesis stuff! Spot of vintage rum with that cup of tea? The ex Ms Chuffy went through a degree and a masters while I was with her, both pretty stressful. I can only imagine the horror of doing the Big One. The viva can't be that bad, it's not as if it's stuff you don't know about. Just try to imagine the panel playing man-quoits with each other and you'll be fine...

Everyone says that. At the point you have it, in fact, you should be the worlds most expert person in your subject. Just now, I can't imagine feeling even half that confident. In theory, supervisory guidance shouldn't let you hand in something that will fail, but it does happen. There are certainly likely to be corrections, major or minor, and some months allowed to make them, and I can;t help wondering if I'll care by then....

Oh, please! An image I don't need!

Tea? anyone?. My FCR tyres have arrived at work, so it's a weekend of fettling for me.
