The two commonest types of valve are Presta and Schrader. You might also come across Woods valves.
Presta and Woods take the same adapter, and have a smaller thread diameter than
Schrader, which are the type found on car tyres and need a different type of adapter with a larger diameter thread.
So, er bear with me here, and thankyou for your patience.
I need to compare the valves on my bicycle tyres with the valves on my car. If they are the same size, it is Schrader. If the valves on my bicycles tyres are smaller than on my car tyres, then it most likely to be Presta or it could be, but less likely, Woods.
Er yes, I have now followed the link very kindly provided by Landslide. I can now compare my valves.
Normally the garage is very tidy. There is a lot of cupboards in it, with various sorts of things together, ie de-icer, car shampoo, spare headlight bulbs etc, another cupboard has diy stuff like wood glue, sandpaper, primer etc. But somehow, I must have been too tidy, now cannot find the vital bit.
The peeps in the LBS are very helpful. But it is not really an LBS, it is a very Racey, fast sort of place, with very expensive bicycles and their own team that wins lots of races. I do somewhat feel like the proverbial fish out of water when I go there, but it is the nearest one.
