Um, thanks, but I'll hold out for tea and a bourbon. Never liked Haribo type sweets.
Fairy snuff. Baggy is the Haribo fan in this house, I'm just eating them because they're there...

It is a relief to be talking to people about it, I've been going over and over stuff in my head for weeks, months maybe. Time to move on. My supervisor didn't look all that surprised - he has a tendency to either be able to anticipate my angst, or at least not look surprised. He's going to look into whether anything can be salvaged from it - I don't know if he means an MPhil, or just maybe some papers, or something. I just want shot of it.
I was going to ask if anything could be saved, it would be a shame for all that work to go to waste. Maybe once the dust has settled you'll feel up to whipping some of it into shape.

Just need to tell my Mum now....
And just how surprised is she likely to be? B)

So, this application form. Start at the top. Name: Chuffy....
Muuuuuh! It's the bits with headings like:-
"My best example of where I have demonstrated respect for race and diversity is :-"
"My best example of where I have demonstrated a strategic perspective is:-"
that really floors me. :ohmy::sad:

So, the plan. Pay off debts, save a bit, bugger off on my bike.

That sounds like a career plan, doesn't it?

Definitely sounds like a plan. I bought a world map yesterday to help plan the bike trip I'm seriously considering...

It might have been Monday, or Tuesday, or even Wednesday, but deffo not last night. Last night I went out to a very interesting slide show about someone's recent visit to the Holy Land. I am not thinking of going, but as he is our Curate, I thought he would be the person to give a good description of the area. He did that excellently, with maps and slides of three dimensional models to show how the places related to one another.

Very rarely do I watch the "One Show" on BBC1, but on Tuesday IIRC there was a short film about St Nicholas Fields, the bit that was landfill and is now covered with trees etc, with lots of birds. Is that "your" St Nicholas Fields?

Not such good news at the Pumphouse. There was an incident in the Park a few weeks ago, and the Centre and the Park had to be closed while the police were in the area.

Yes, that was 'our' place. Once landfill, and a dumping ground for Rowntrees' waste, which is why there are fruit trees, from the pastilles flavours. Only on Tuesday, we used the roof of our recycling truck as a plum picking platform:biggrin:

We've had the Police in fairly recently, looking for signs of Claudia Lawrence, who lived nearby and is still missing without trace after months.

Probably a bit, I haven;t relly confided my worries to her. I'm going to wait until it's settled, so that I can present a fait accompli, and not hav her worry about me. Well, much.

My answer to the first would probably be along the lines of "I tend not to notice someone's race etc, unless there's a jolly good reason."
I'm not sure what the second one means. Is it like saving half your Haribos in case you are hungry on the bus later?

We are all going to get tied up in Metaphorical knots soon, Landfill, world tours, archeology, and application forms.

My best bit where I showed Initiative and improvisation was deciding how many ways to use plums, and bits of off-cuts of material.

My best bit where I showed respect for race and diveristy is when I did my world tour with Spandex and Helen 123.

I should say this is high per theoretical.

I guess it's just a new chapter in the book of Arch.
That's not one of those lost books that never made it into the New Testament is it? B)

It sounds like one of those 'jump out of the plane and hope the parachute works' kind of things. You know that you've got to jump, because the plane is going to crash anyway, but it's scary. Once you've actually done it the feeling of liberation and relief is great. I've had more than my share of those moments and it always works out ok in the end.

Wow, a world map? That's a bit bigger than my plan of covering Europe.... Do you want to spill the beans about it?

I do have an ambition to cycle through as many countries as I can in one day. I think it might be doable, in a loop, to take in France, Luxembourg, Holland, Germany and Belgium, although that is dependent on me reading my atlas scale correctly....

Heh, I suggested that, as my best friend is a naughty gentleman with a penchant for overseas totty, he should go on a 'round the world cruise', taking in naughty gentlemen from other countries. So far he's managed Canada, France, Mexico and America. Not in one day though, he isn't that much of a slut. B)

Actually, the story of Susannah (my real name) and the Elders is one of those in the Apocrypha....

I do feel relieved. A colleague came looking for me to identify a bone on Wednesday (I think it was a goose wishbone, but advised her to double check the reference collection) and said "Hello, how's it going?" and half an hour later after I'd told her, and wiped my eyes and blown my nose, I knew I was doing the right thing - I just hadn't dared say it out loud. After that, I knew I just had to talk to Terry, and once I'd done that I felt so much better.

I don't think he was astonished, and neither was my mate Eva, who I've just had lunch with. And now I can work the weekend at the festival without guilt, and work for Roger at the end of the month, and pick up any recycling shifts that happen to be going - all the sort of stuff I've been turning down "to work" instead, and then wasting the time staring out of the window anyway.

With hindsight, I was feeling like this 2 years ago, and thought some time off would sort me out, but it didn't. I gave it a go, but....

Well no, I mean Canada - America - Mexico makes sense, but France is a heck of a detour....

I'm fed up at work and have been for quite a while. Then I discovered Crazyguyonabike.com... I have the funds, I just need to find the courage.

Oh yes, other people's journals do that to you. I find, when I read books like that they fall into two camps - the ones I'd like to emulate, and the ones I'm glad they did it and I can just read about it with a cup of tea.

I've just read one for review, and found myself thinking, India seems too full on, but Vietnam sounded ok, and then Cambodia was too full on again....

So, you fancy round-the-world, or just bits of it? I have a vision of spending months in France, drifting from campsite to campsite on a whim, becoming bi-lingual and eating too much cheese.

In an ideal world, with someone, but I'm becoming braver about the idea of going it alone.

Arch, I think the Mphil is a good idea, was chatting to carwash the other day wondering if that's what you were going to do. If something isn't coming together there is no point prolonging the agony and anyway its not like your walking away from it without giving it your best shot.

It may be time to do a jobs for Arch thread.

I think I need something to aim for rather than aimless wandering, something like a TransAm then who knows. Have you thought about WWOOFING? Free food and board in exchange for some work. You could probably work your way round France doing that. See if there are any cheese producers you could help out:tongue:.
