Why don't dishwashers have a window in the door like washing machines?

I want to see how my Lego is surviving.

I remember some American fieldschool students being fascinated by the washing machine in the house we rented. We found two of them sitting in front of it with a bag of popcorn, watching the washing go round. They all have top loaders in the states, apparently.

More to the point, why DO washing machines have windows? They don't really need them, do they. Not many appliances do. Ovens, yes, so you can check on the food but mostly you have to open the door anyway to see properly. Fridges ought to, so you can check what you've got in, although the stuff in the door shelves might get in the way....

So you can watch as all your whites end up pink because of that one sock that got in there?
So you can see that the clunk clunk noise really is the Ipod that you've been looking for?

I think it is so you can see if it is still full of water before opening the door when the pump has failed or the filter has blocked.

If anybody remembers this post from the other day I now have the evidence

Managed to get first in line at the queue at the coffee shop so finished my cake and coffee long before the others. While I waited, I stretched out in my chair and had me a little snooze in the sun (did I mention it's really :sun: here? So much so that we sat outside :becool:). Alas, a photo was taken :ninja:
