Nah, I think the increased porosity of the cut back surface would increase irregularity in the final surface gloss....

Greetings all from Bettyhill on the very north coast. NT what have you done to yourself? I hope you didnt trip over your tractor. I love the cake making photos but don't forget that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Any chance of sending me a slice in Scotland? I've done 980 miles and have set off back to Lands End. I'm due to arrive there on 1st July.

Hope the leg heals quickly.

When are you passing Manchester?

I did my leg walking upstairs. Detached my achillies tendon form my calf muscle and then, when I was in plaster I fell over and broke my toe. I should heal in about 2 months.

I'm going to Carlisle next Friday and then cutting across to the Yorkshire Dales for a couple of days rest. So unfortunately will be by-passing Manchester. So I guess the cake will have to wait.
