We started the day debating whether the line had been reached - the one that says we can't go out and collect. The trikes were definately out - trying to pedal one through slush and muscovado sugar 3 inches deep is almost impossible for any length of time, espcially once loaded with a couple of hundred kilos of stuff.

We eventually decided we'd give Beryl the electric vehicle a try, and ended up managing to do nearly all the normal rounds, with a two hour lunch break while she recharged (in this weather, she can only cope with one round per charge, not two).

If we get any more over the weekend (as it forecast), we'll have to discuss 'the line' all over again on Monday.

Walked in today, din't fancy two wheels on the slush. Even managed to get my shopping on the way home - no sign of Sainsburys running out of anything... Going to do a prawn curry for dinner...

Tea?

Ah, tea...

I had curry tonight, home made prawn korma sort of thing. Very nice it was too, if I say so myself.

I've been sent 4 free low energy lightbulbs by npower. Apparently it was their way of getting round some environmental commitment. One is a screw fitting, so no use, but the others I'll squirrel away for when my current ones die (they're all about 5 or 6 years old already). And I think I still have some cheap Ikea spares. I may now own enough lightbulbs for the rest of my life!

Having elderly parents in the house means I have a cupboard full of CF lamps and a basement full of loft insulation rolls.

Kettle's on.

I'm sure you're suppose to put the insulation in the loft you know, not the basement... I suppose it stops the moles digging up through the floor?

Oh, talking of loft insulation..

Wednesday, I had to let a guy in to survey my loft (the landlord's arranged insulation). Bit of a pain, had to take time off work, they said they could guarantee 'afternoon' and call me an hour before to get home (I confirmed this on Monday too).

10.20, a guy rings to say he'll be there in an hour. No you won't I said, I can't leave work before lunchtime. Ok he says, how about 12.30? Ok, I'll be there, or at least I'll be on my way....

So I'm home just before 12.30. I get up to the flat, put the kettle on and look out of the window to see a van go by slowly, 'JMark Installations'. That's the name they said on the phone, I think. Down I go to let him in, and when I get out front, no van, he's gone. <sigh> thinks I, he's failed to find me (because my 'front' door is round the side). So I stand there, waiting for him to come back looking confused. Half an hour goes by, no sign. It snows a bit. Then I see a JMark van go by the end of the road. I dash down, and it's waiting at the lights at the corner. So I run up to it, and say 'are you looking for <my street>?'. Blank looks from the lads inside, no, not us.

At 13.20 a car pulls up, and it's the chap for me. From Mark Installations....
