I get asthma, and it has been worse over the past few days since visiting my mother. Could I have an allergic reaction from being exposed to them and/or their droppings for such a short time? I was there for about four hours. Or is it just a coincidence with my earache, and sore throat?

No offence, but an owl with an allergy to rodents would be fairly ironic....;)

I hope it all gets sorted out, anyway.

I'm having my pasta sauce without pasta today, I bought a cheesey bread thing in Morrisons on the way home, and I'm having it with that. I may also have had a garnish of a slice of reduced pork pie...

Speicher, Rocky's right, best speak to your Council's Environmental Health Dept. They will be able to tell you ho much they charge to catch the rats [or mice] ... may not charge your mum if she's an OAP, but I doubt they'd do it for nothing.

Probably. We all live a lot closer to rats than we like to acknowledge.

We were discussing this at work yesterday. We had a bird table, but it attracted rats, and the centre manager said some visitors had commented on seeing them run about in the garden.

Well, it IS a nature reserve! We big up the fact there are water voles in the beck, but rats must be discouraged.,..

I know they can carry disease, but I think outside in a garden and nature reserve, it's a bit much to try and drive them away!

I started cement rendering a wall today, not doing too well on that, my first time too. It will get better, it will have to.

Also I managed to get the door opening moved over and the replacement door fitted in the hole. The rest of the stud wall has now been rebuilt and boarded over.
The door liner needs some additional timber to make it deeper to match the wall thickness.

I bought this door from an architectural salvage place many years ago and it has been moved about and fitted in various parts of the house as plans evolved. I think it is right as my office/design room door.
It just needs a curtain on the inside for when it is a guest room.
