Funny is seeing motorists ignoring the 'road closed due to flooding' signs and trying to drive through only to realise part way through that they won't make it so they have to try to turn back and drive past pedestrians who are laughing at them for being so stupid and arrogant.

I prefer the Swedish Wallander. As you have got used to subtitles, you might enjoy it. Each 90 minutes episode is complete, unlike The Killing. I enjoyed the first series of "The Killing" but not the second one as it was far too political and over complicated.

I have bought the dvd of "A Mind to Kill" starring Philip Madoc as Noel Bain. It was on tv many years ago, and I had hoped they would repeat it.

I also like "Law and Order: Criminal Intent". This concentrates on the reasons for murders*, and does not use computers ad infinitum like they do in the CSI series. A more light-hearted one is, as I mentionned earlier this week, "Murdoch Mysteries".
This is set in Canada in the early twentieth century. Mrs Rocky might like that one. ;) Some episodes are very imaginative regarding inventions that people think about.

"Due South" is another one that I have very much enjoyed from many years ago. Set in Canada, with a Royal Canadian Mounty.

* I will not say more than that, or it might spoil it for you.

I hope that helps. Can you just download one or two episodes on iTunes, or does it have to be the whole series? Have you got a Smart tv, that you can watch these on, or will you be watching them on a puter screen?

Yes :cuppa: thank you.

I did not like the Kenneth Branagh ones so much, because his abysmal relationship with the father of his character is given too much emphasis.

I know what you mean about American accents, and needing subtitles because they talk too fast. I think in Criminal Intent they do not talk so fast. Another good American one is "Cold Case".

That should give you enough suggestions to be going on with. Don't forget The Snowman and the Snowdog is on tomorrow evening. ^_^

On a totally different topic, @Speicher or anyone, could you recommend me a detective series that I could download from iTunes to watch over Xmas?

.
Columbo?

Yes, the episode of early Morse was very good.

Btw there may be two programmes called "Murdoch Mysteries". The one I like has Yannick Bison in the lead role as Detective William Murdoch. Series 5 has been very good, involving lots of inventors.
