More bad news from my mother. She thinks she has got rid of the all the rats, but now has an infestation of bluebottles, aka large blue flies. She thinks it is from the rubbish bins that were not collected over Christmas and New Year. I think the rats have a hidden larder in her house which has hatched bluebottles. NT, have you got any ideas about that?

How were the rats got rid of? Could it be dead rats----> maggots------> bluebottles?

Once the food source has gone then the flies will go too. Alternatively, fumigate with fly spray at the source, though that will just mean lots of dead flies everywhere and probably not good for any local wildlife that is enjoying the flies.

I thought flowers and wine were the way to welcome your fiancée, not a roller and a circuit tester

This is NT and me you're talking about.

Wine maybe, but I'm not fussed about flowers.

It's occurred to me today, that I'm half way between qualifying for a Young Person's Railcard*, and a Senior Railcard.

*Although, I had one legitimately as a student, well into my 30's.
