How were the rats got rid of? Could it be dead rats----> maggots------> bluebottles?

Once the food source has gone then the flies will go too. Alternatively, fumigate with fly spray at the source, though that will just mean lots of dead flies everywhere and probably not good for any local wildlife that is enjoying the flies.

I agree with you about the source of the bluebottles. She, however, is convinced knows definitely that they are coming in through the gaps in the very small fan thingummy above the window. She also knows that it is because of the mild weather, and the bins not being collected from houses half a mile away.

As I am not a Pest Controller I could not possibly know that they are hatching from a carcase, or several carcases, of dead rats. The Pest Controller from the Council will be visiting again soon. I will remind her to ask him about the bluebottles.

It does look promising for next week but I'm not sure how much to trust the forecast. This time yesterday It was supposed to have been dry here today, then the rain came in overnight and this morning it's turned to light snow.

I notice that in the last half hour, the Met Office have sneakily done a retrospective change of this mornings forecast to make it look like they were expecting the snow. Naughty people.
