... the old ones are the goodies ...
Does anyone remember the Goodies?
Remember them? I've got a DVD!
Interesting 'trandem' fact. The first series, they had a standard tandem, with a seat (and no extra pedals) bolted on where the rear rack would be, for Bill Oddie, which put his weight just behind the rear hub, and made it almost unrideable. When you watch it, all the trandemming shots are very short. For the second series, they had a proper triplet, and it was much easier to ride, and I think you see more long shots of them riding it.
Cookie - the giant kitten was in one episode, but it was in the title sequence too, so it appeared a lot.
My favourite one is their Jack in the Beanstalk episode, where they are broke, and sell the triplet, at a sort of bicycle cattle market, where bikes are being led round the ring. Including a 'mother and calf' - a bicycle, towing a little tricycle behind it on a string.
Oh, and of course, the Ecky Thump sequence. I heard that one old chap literally died laughing at that (he had a sudden heart attack) - his widow wrote to them and said it was how he'd have wanted to go.
Anyway, afternoon! Tea anyone? I spent half an hour this afternoon at work, grating cheese for the pizzas for the after school club kids (to be baked in the pizza oven they helped to build). The centre doesn't have a grater, so I shaved bits off with a vegetable peeler. I'm nothing if not ingenious.
