Good advice Arch. I'm sure it will work for anyone with a degree of willpower, unfortunately I find that the only way to stop snacking on that kind of stuff is to not buy it in the first place

That works as well, and has the advantage of saving cash too.....

Right, I'm off to bed. Too many late nights recently, and back to work at 8am tomorrow....

Afternoon fellow dieters tea drinkers.
Have had a nice healthy scrambled egg on toast for late breakfast/early lunch, have been shopping and avoided all the half price Christmas goodies that are taking up a huge shelf in Tescos, and I even bought fruit!!

Last day of leisure before the dreaded return to work tomorrow night

Well, diet underway.

I've not weighed myself as that could get scary and my digital bathroom scales are in better use in my workshop for weighing trike parts as I sort them out.

However, today (ignoring yeaterday's tidying up of miscellaneous left over chocolates and sweets) I have had a small bowl of cornflakes, 1 1/2 pints of tea and one honey coated almond. Next meal will be dinner tonight though I might hava tangerine in a while.

Food money can be better spent on the £550 worth of winter gas and electric bills.

Will you be revealing how much weight you want to lose NT?
I will be weighing myself every Sunday morning and keeping a log of it for reference, am aiming for between 1.5 to 2 stone loss over the year, though I really need to lose a bit more but don't want to set a goal that will dishearten me if it's not going to plan.

Well, last week I was about 14 stone, dressed, so I guess about 13st 10lbs or there abouts.
I need and want to lose about 3 stone of that give or take a bit. My ideal weight range is apparently is 10st to12st 6lbs for 5'10" tall male.

But I will also be excercising more and gaining some muscle bulk so the weight itself becomes less of an issue.

Getting my tummy down from a relaxed 39" back to a relaxed 32" would be more important to me as that is where I am least happy about my shape and weight. Again my idea height to waist size indicates I am aiming for 32".

I guess, in terms of keeping a record, I will record here and now that I have a 39" tummy and I am aiming for 32".
My weight is nearly 14 stone and I am aiming for 10st something.

Will that do?

Various experts like the British Heart Foundation, suggest in the first instance, aiming to lose ten per cent of your body weight. That is my first target, then I will reassess from there. As you say if you aim too high, you might get disheartened. I think one or two pounds a week is deemed sensible.

I was thinking more of losing 20lbs in the 1st 4-5 weeks and then relaxing

Arch - when you return home from work, you might like to read the thread called "Painful Conclusion". The reason for this is that I think your knitting skills are required. I am not quite sure how you will take the measurements for the required garment. ;)

10 percent over how long - the whole year? if so i am chuffed as 10% of 130kg is 13Kg and I lost 15Kg in 3 months. Christmas was not a good time for keeping it off and have put on a few kg so all in all 13kg

10% of 117Kg is 11.7 , rounded uop to 12Kg so lets see how long it takes to get rid of that ;)

diet starts in earnest next week as we still have some sweeties etc to demolish finish off.

I am not sure about the time scale, as I suppose it depends on your starting weight. Alledgedly the ten per cent loss is supposed to reduce your blood pressure, pulse rate and your tendency to diabetes. I am no expert on this, I am sure their website will explain it all.

Losing over two stone in three months is very good, well done. Christmas is a very difficult time. My scales are distinctly on the inaccurate side, gives my weight as varying by about nine pounds. I take the heaviest weight as my true weight. What sort of scales have you got?
