You're probably right.

Sweepstake on how long it will take Arch to respond to this, anyone?

About 3 hours and 10 minutes?

Gosh, have I made top spot? Blimey.

An unexpected half day at work today, so I could finish the Galaxy, except, no, there's just one more bit I realise I haven't got - the little plastic guide that takes the cables under the BB.. Bob Trotters say they are bike specific and they'll have to order one, so I'm going to ride down to BikeRescue and see if they have one knocking about.

If they haven't, I have several.

Cheers, I'll bear that in mind. I'm slightly dubious about how 'bike specific' they are - I suppose there are a couple of sizes of BB shell, but beyond that it should be pretty standard. I can't think why I haven't got the old one, maybe it had got cracked or something.

I'll let you know if I need one...

I don't think they're bike specific at all - I've swapped one from an alloy frame to a carbon one in the past. I've also bodged one together using two bits of cable outer held on with gaffer tape.
My mechanic skills are class, I tell you. Solid class.

I never thought of bodging one...

I'll see what Bikerescue can do and if not, maybe I can scrounge one off Uncle Phil...

Of course, once I have it, there really is NO excuse not to finish the build off - the stuff left to do is the fiddly adjusting stuff like cabling up the gears and brakes. I bet I get half way through and find there's a tool I don't have or something.

This project has been so long in the making, I'm almost afraid to finish it, if you know what I mean. But it would be nice to actually ride it!

The only way in which they are bike specific is that some bikes have larger holes in the bottom bracket shells into which to clip or rivet them than others.

I've recieved similar dubious advice from Bob Trotter's in the past.

You get the under-bracket cable guide every time you buy a set of Campag ergo levers, or a Campag cable set. I've fitted various sets of cables to various bikes, but never needed to replace the under-bracket cable guide. (Largely because Moultons don't have one!)

Hence the surplus.

Bike Rescue will have one. Whether they can find it is another question...

I know I can find mine. But only because I happened to see them last night!

I've just had a feel under my bottom bracket (oo er!), and there's one hole, about 7mm in diameter (I got the Verniers out), so I'll go armed with that info.

The chap who served me with a couple of crank bolts on Saturday seemed knowledgeable enough, but it was a young lad today.

Right, I'm off to Bike Rescue - I'll let you know if I need to raid your spares!

Mysteriously, the mudguard bridge Uncle Phil delivered before never got to me and we never found out where it disappeared to!

<wheedling voice>

Uncle Phil.... Can I have one of your spare widgets please?

Bikerescue are apparently always fighting to find enough, so none to spare.

Love the new sig, BTW!
