No, it is where people who ask stupid questions get run over by a steam roller.

You got a season ticket?

I have steered a showman's engine, at Pickering, where they have a 'ladies' excuse me' session. The owner does the regulator and brakes, and ladies get to steer.

Steam Launches are lovely. I saw some very nice ones in the Windermere museum. One had a special tap off the boiler, for water to make tea.

Here's a list of steam fairs, in a fairly humorous style! Scroll right down for 2011.

But Pickering isn't listed. I'm really going to try to get to that one again this year.

Ah. This is more comprehensive:

Hang on, I'll just go and get that letter that came for Potsy, and we'll open it....

The lovely thing about Steam fairs, is the smell. Hot steam, engineering oil and coal, mingled with hog roast.

I worked there for a while, few years ago. Before I got a job making the engines for a launch builder.

The best fast food chain has to be the hog roast outlets in York.

When I got married we had a spit roast pig, in the Great Hall at Penshurst Place in Kent, for the reception. When we advised the guests that it would be 'pig on a stick' one of the vegetarian guests obviously opted for the vegetarian option but with the proviso that if we got wild boar she would have that instead!

That's the kind of wedding catering I like. I've often thought I'd like to hire a fish and chip van for my guests. I like the idea of poshly done up people eating chips out of the paper....

Why the guests would be poshly done up, I dunno, I'd wear jeans if I could get away with it.

Anyway, the hogroast at the steam fair had been well appreciated:

There was a bear, delivering bread:

He only had one eye, hence the patch:

This chap was intact, surprised the police weren't out after him:

Plus of course there were traction engines, tractors, vintage cars and huge trucks. :becool:

Crumbs - what a pong!!

* opens all windows and lights fragranced candle *

What is that smell?

I am getting strong coal and engine oil, mixed with roast pig, with a final note of fish, and a lingering taste of chip.

It was probably a lovely smell yesterday

I will have to eat my coffee and walnut cake on the patio then.
