Got a steam fair near me next weekend. I may have to unleash my inner coalhead.

Oh go on! Do make sure you seek out the display of Stationary engines, or Phut Machines as an old friend of mine called them. Not for the machines themselves, which are unerringly rather dull, but for the owners, almost always a couple sitting in deckchairs looking grumpy, as if daring you to ask a question and unleash either a) a mine of unwanted detail, or b ) a grunt. It's a great people-collecting opportunity.

My car failed its MOT.

Chip in the windscreen and a front suspension bush.
Advisories on near side tyres getting a bit lower then the off side and a small hole in the exhaust.

I have now booked it in for a new windscreen tomorrow, as the chip is too big to fix, but it is weatehr dependent.
I also jacked the car up to have a look at the hole in the exhaust. It was by the cat so an expensive replacement, so I dragged the welder out and welded it. I also welded on a couple of bolts to secure the exhaust heat sheld that had rusted away leaving the shield rattling on the exhaust pipe.

The car will be booked in for the bush and a retest as soon as the windscreen is done.

At least I will get a new screen, dispite the £75 excess, and I will be able to get the right colour tint on it again. The last replacement I told them it was green, as a guess, and got it wrong so this time it will be the correct grey again. I will have to get new wipers to go with it, no point scratching a new screen with old wiper blades.

Last cuppa before bed I think.

I think I've sprained two fingers on my left hand!
It may happened earlier when I was fixing the car. I reached for an axle stand and my fingers pulled it towards me but the stand didn't move. I just felt a sharp twinge in my hand but ignored it to carry on working.

Now it is a little swollen around the 3rd and 4th knuckles on my left hand and the fingers are sore and weak.

Sore finger? At least you didn't weld yourself to your car NT

I'll bring mine round to you next week if it too fails it's MOT, could do with some bodging to keep it going

Hope your hand feels better today.

I have planned things rather badly. Decided to cycle home yesterday along the main road (not because it was sunny and I wanted to build up my tan

) but since that doesn't take me through the village, I made vague plans to go out again later to buy milk. Of course, that didn't happen, so here I am this morning, running low on milk on the first day of proper rain that we'd had for ages. The rain is good, god knows we need it. I'm just feeling delicate and wimpy

Man up Jo it's only water :rain:
Finally got round to watching Dr Who last night and amazingly had managed to avoid the spoiler
won't say what it was in case anyone else has still to watch it (Arch?)
I then started watching Walking Dead, at 1.30am, spooky

The rain gods heard my plaintive whimpers and it stopped long enough for me to get to the village and back

Lovely being out in the post-rain world, everything smelled so much fresher (apart from the cars on the roads) and I swear the grass and trees looked greener.

I haven't watched Doctor Who for weeks. Did it get *properly* good?

Bah, won't bother then.

I'm being good and having normal coffee - have found a local cycling group (non-competitive) and all being well, I'm going out with them for the first time on Saturday. They say they stick together as a group and I don't want to be the new girl who slows everyone down

I think it's more likely that your dog will slow the group downn Jo ;) Have fun, I enjoy the forum rides as I usually just ride to work and back all week, it's great to have a nice leisurely paced ride with dcent people and a few cafe stops obviously

I watched it on iPlayer on Sunday...

I've been less enthralled since Matt Smith took over, but was mildly interested to see what happened.

I did find myself thinking how much better David Tennant would have done the ranting and emotional stuff. Athough Matt Smith is good, I'll admit, I'm just not as hooked.
