I still have our old phone.
Looks like this one.

I still remember our old phone numbers too, both of them.

That was when London was 01.

The sensible peeps on this thread might know the answer to this question.

Do most, if not all, mobile phone numbers start 079 ?

Is 075 one of those web phone hub thing majigs? (like wot would be on a puter?)

Look Posty, when I was ickle, phones were large, black and had a circular dial.
My first phone number after leaving home was the name of the village followed by 403.

The first mobile phones had a battery the size of ten house bricks.

Mine starts 078, just to further confuse the matter.

NT, we had that phone, but a pale yellow/beige colour!

Yes, that makes everything clear as mud.;)

According to Wikipedia (if you believe them...!)

Individual mobile phone companies are allocated different ranges within the 074xx, 075xx, 07624, 077xx, 078xx and 079xx area codes.

075xx xxxxxx Mobile phones (in use since May 2007)

Since the advent of Mobile number portability, mobile phone number prefixes can no longer be relied on to determine the current operator of a particular mobile phone – only the original operator.

To cut a very long, very tedious story short, my mother seems to be confused between her mobile phone and her phone on her computer. She also gets confused between a mobile phone and a cordless landline phone. I thought the prefix might give me some clue about this.

Thank you, but I have a glass of sparkling wine to hand!

I did, in the course of this morning, try to explain to my Mother that if a phone is thought to be faulty, it really is not a good idea to try to use that phone to contact the phone company to tell them about the fault. Particularly, when the fault is caused by the phone company trying to contact you, and the call staying connected. But  what do I know about phones??????? and breathe.... and sip wine, and remember there is a Snickers bar in the fridge (that Potsy does not kn ........ did not know about).
