Apparently stopping suddenly can lead to death in some cases!

Sounds like the drugs are making you worse than not having them, NT.
I always wonder about when they say 'don't stop taking them without consulting your GP' and how often that's just to cover their backs. I do know that it's not good to come off some stuff like anti depressants without supervision, but I guess that's because in that situation you may become less able to rationalise how you're feeling. (I had a good friend in that situation, on and off Fluoxetine).
I'm just fortunate not to have needed much in the way of prescriptions, I know. Although I was more or less sent home early from work today under orders to rest - I felt a bit rough thanks to hormones
and cold 
. The trouble is, we've hired a van this week, and I'm the named driver, so I can't go off sick....
I've spent most of the afternoon dozing in bed, dreaming that my phone spontaneously felt to pieces - not like the back falling off, but literally breaking into bits like a biscuit.

It's usually worth battening down the hatches and sitting through the worst of the side effects as they mostly vanish once your system gets used to them. A friend described it as like wearing in a new pair of shoes... I wasn't in the most rational frame of mind when I came off the proponol, speaking to your GP is good.
Night Arch, I won't be online for much longer either, eyes are very heavy tonight. (And before Potsy says it, no, I've not run out of room for the surplus blubber, resorting to my eyelids instead.

It lowers blood pressure and suddenly stopping can cause the blood pressure to shoot up leading to heart failure.

There was an almighty ruckus out in the orchard in the night, no idea what was going on but we're talking blood-curdling shrieks and cries. I assume one animal had met its end at the teeth of another, or two large mammals were engaged in heavy battle, but it was a tad unnerving. Dog slept through it. I didn't sleep much after.
