Woo hoo, car passed it's MOT  Must have been the quick rinse with the hosepipe yesterday that did it
3\4 mile bike ride to pick it up :bicycle:
I must get mine through its MOT. It expired last week as I had to cancel the test I had arranged before I became incapacitated. Must find a local tester so that Arch can take it for me next weekend. She can then use my car to do the York Manchester commute.

Talking of "old-fashioned" ?? tools, like someone was on another thread. I have some garden shears in the garage, that are very stiff to use. Can the bolt be adjusted, and how can I remove some of the rust from the blades? is it easy with a particular sort of sandpaper on metal?

Chuck 'em away and get some modern ones

Back from my river trail excursion, nice little round trip of 16 miles, 1st time I've successfully made it round without having to double back on myself cos I've got lost
Think I'll treat myself to a :cuppa: and a jaffa cake

The bolt may be adjustable to tighten it a little.

To sharpen it you could get a sharpening stone from a hardware shop or a diamond sharpening plate.

Then use it to carefully polish the bevel side of the blades to bring back the edge. For surface rust on the flat side of the blade fine wire wool will polish it off.

What he said... or if no wire wool is to hand then try a green kitchen scourer pad e.g.

Spending what seemed like most of last night having bad dreams has left me in a very low and fed up mood today.

The dreams involved having to cut my own hair, which I did badly, and then fixing a car for someone who didn't appreciate it and still gave me a hard time for doing it even though it was a favour that meant I missed going to do an exam that would have been really important to my career.

I know it was just a bad dream so why am I still pi**ed off about it?

Thank you Night Train and Bikepete for your help. I think I have some wire wool, and definitely have some green scouring wotsits.
I will try to fix the shears.

Potsy .... Do you really expect me to throw something away rather than spend half an hour trying to mend it?

I noticed yesterday a triffid has grown in the base of my compost heap and worked its way to the light, and then out of the gap by the hatch at the bottom. It had a very thick stem. I am trying to work out if this means it is good compost and ready to come out or if it is not decomposted yet?

I am guessing a bit here, never having met you. Is it because having your hair cut properly, and being appreciated for your hard work are very very important to you? You know it was a dream, but the emotions involved during the dream are now staying in your brain, and being "processed" by your brain, even though you are awake.

I have often had really horrid vivid nightmares, and feel upset and confused the following day. So I do not think it is just you. :hugs:

I'm not much fussed about my hair anymore, short-ish and tidy will do. As for being appreciated I reckon it is one of the reasons I am still off sick and waiting, still waiting, for psychotherapy referral. I could have done with a year ago. I feel very appreciated by those who matter, but maybe I am still hung up about those who don't.

I just wish I could shake off the general gloominess I am feeling today and get back to enjoying life.

A quick cod-psychology guess is that it wasn't the hair that was the issue, but that you didn't do it well - because I know you like to do things well. Perhaps it was just your brain's way of dealing with frustration at not being able to do stuff at the moment.

I just wish I could shake off the general gloominess I am feeling today and get back to enjoying life.

:hugs:

We all have down days, and a down day on top of being a bit of an invalid is just adding insult to injury. Put it down to a rough day, and expect to feel happier tomorrow. Know that I'm amazed and impressed at how you're handling it all. :smooch:

Also, I took all the leftover cake away with me - that can't have helped.... ;)

Well, I'm home. There's a policeman stationed outside the flat next door, while a man fixes the damage they did when they forced entry over the weekend to arrest the occupant... Fun and games!

Well, at least you didn't have to be here while that was going on. I hope your neighbours, below, are ok.

The Victoria sponge seems to have survived the trip, I'll sandwich it and top with sugar while my dinner cooks.

I imagine she's just happy to have it being resolved. When I saw the glazing van outside, I feared for her windows, but that all seems ok. Policeman seemed to think the neighbour wouldn't be living there much longer.

Anybody nice and stable want to rent a flat in central York? I seem to have variable luck with the neighbours on that side![/quote]
