Note that the beak needs to be longer perhaps than in these instructions. so that it can bend through the spout and be supported by the rim of the spout. In figure 5, you will see that they have made a short beak. You might it to be longer. I think the tail feathers can be cut how you like.

It can then be decorated with tissue paper, fabric, or anything you like. The limit being your imagination or Olly's imagination.

It may look a funny shape until you turn the wings inside out.

I am guessing here, but it may be just ever so slightly out of scale with the elephants. If you gave the bird some legs perhaps it could be a Talaxigo Gigantisaurus?

Lacutremavis giganticus - giant milk bottle bird!

Very cool, thanks! I will try a few at St Nicks, where I can source lots of different milk bottle shapes and sizes to find the best. I can make up some blanks for children to decorate at our next event.

(we've only got a big 6 pint bottle here, I'll have a go and see if it works, while Oli and Max are out at playgroup...)

Out of curiosity penguinking9, do you know the parentage of the dog?

Friends have just sent me a picture of their new dog from the Animal Welfare League. They say that it's whippet x papillon.

It looks similar in the face, and the colour as yours.

He's a 'probably almost 100% border collie'.

His 'brother', (as seen with him on the pet photo thread) is 50-50 collie/black lab

Aha! It works! :wahhey:

I have hidden it away in the recycling basket, and will see if Oli wants to decorate it with me later, when Max has his nap - there was only one bottle, so I couldn't make one each, and trying to share decorating it might lead to warfare... I will email my sister the link in case she wants it for the future....

I see that you altered the design of the beak. When Anda showed me how to do it, the beak was longer and thinner, and not folded like the one on your plastic bird. I think your version is more anatomically correct. What did you do with the tail feathers?

The plastic birds was a Holiday activity at the Pump House last week. Anda had photos of the finished item, and demonstrated to me how to make one. Somehow I just knew that my computer aided design skills were not sufficient for me to sketch it for you.
A quick search on tinternet saved me from doing that. There are all sorts of other activities on the website. They also mention "makedo" kits of reusable hinges, joins etc for cardboard houses, cars etc.

Taking of Jollidays. I am off on a week's jollidays today, at about 5pm. I will be staying somewhere very quiet, and I know the area very well. Can you guess where I will be?

It is a bit :cold: here today. Still in shorts and tee shirt though.

My gout ridden foot is stiff, swollen and achey though much better then yesterday. I have less movement in it then in my other foot. Might make it out for a cafe break later though, maybe get some shopping in to help restock the fridge.

I have also secreted away a couple of bits of Brio train track so that I can make some sections of it. Some longer straights and a some taller bridges so that trains can actually pass under them as well as over.

I was looking forward to a :cuppa: but Arch is busy decorating a milk carton bird with Oli and Max is being put to bed.
There will be a :cuppa: later on though.

Lunch for my 8yo is a fresh live crab, which he bought at Leeds market this morning, along with an Octopus.

Now, I've never prepared crab before. What's worse is that it was staring at me before I popped it in the pot.

/ feel bad now
