What else could you mean. 'Innocent'?

Or for that matter... 'young'?

May I put a hypothetical question to the citizens of Tea?

Just supposing you were looking for a job. You gained a degree over two years ago, and since then you have only part-time work that has had little relevance to your qualifications. So a friend or relative hears, via the grapevine, of a place that is right up your street work-wise, and that will be taking on several new members of staff in exactly your field of expertise. This relative sends you the advance (but, admittedly, brief) details of the new project with very brief details of the sort of vacancies that may well be available. Did I mention the details were brief? Yes but this relative is telling you about the vacancies so that you can keep a "look out" for the job advertisements on that particular organisation's website.

Oh yes, where was I? So, this relative sends you an email bringing this new project to your attention. What sort of response (by email) would you make? It only needs to be a sentence or two.

You mean the reply to the relative sending the info?

I'd probably say "Oh, thanks for that, it looks interesting, I'll keep an eye on it"

Yes, Arch, I am interested in how you (the person looking for work) would respond to the person sending you the advance notice.

Would anyone else like to add their reply? It would be useful to get about five replies to this. :addict:

I just saw your other post, so I see where you're coming from...

Seems easy enough to be polite, even if not actually interested. A colleague of mine sent me an email link the other day to a research assistant job at York Uni. Since I am happy in my job, don't want anything with much responsibilty, and unlikely to want to leave until it becomes time to move west, I wasn't at all interested, but I was able to be gracious at least!

I'd politely thank the person even if I had no interest in the potential position.
And I've had to do exactly that quite often, over the years...

@ Speicher
Having read your description of An Irritating Someone, I have a strange and irrational fear that you work in my office! It sounds horribly familiar...

I'd do a polite "Thanks for this - looks interesting. I'll keep an eye out. If you see or hear of anything else like this please let me know." type reply.

That's an academic's view anyway.
