I'm not a particularly happy bunny. I went out for my ride this morning. The :sun:, the wind was behind me. God was in his heaven and all was right with the world. I stopped at some traffic lights after 7 miles and my rear wheel went ping and then ping again. I looked down to see two broken spokes and a wheel that didn't want turn round as it was shaped a bit like a wonky banana.

Tell me that it's nothing to do with my weight. 13st is not too heavy for a 36 spoke wheel.........grrrrrr
Err Rocky - is that wheel as old as you?

I am currently in the lead.

Except if you stare at the background for a while, it starts to go backwards, so you'll be last...

Well, I've spent the day showing NT and his relatives round the sights of York, including high tea at Betty's.:hungry:

NT just dropped me off before driving them back home.

I don't think I need any more :cuppa: just yet.

and a marmalade buttie here, with some :cuppa:

The wheel is two years old. It was hand-built and cost quite a lot of money. I have a feeling that the wheel-builder has retired so I suspect that I'll have to have a go myself. I have zero confidence in the rest of the spokes and so I might replace them all grrrrrrrr

I'd expect more than 2 years from a hand built wheel. Wonder if he used old spokes or the wrong guage? :cuppa:

High tea at Betty's sounds great, what did you get?

Well, the relatives shared a high tea - some little sandwiches (I think some ham, some salmon and cream cheese), a scone and cream and jam, and three little cakes - a piece of fruit cake, a little fruit tart, and a macaroon. Served with tea. Pricy perhaps, but very very English, and NT's niece had especially wanted to have an English High Tea.

NT had Rarebit, and I had Eggs Benedict.

We looked at the Minster, many other old buildings and shops, walked a section of the walls, and went into Clifford's Tower to go up and walk round the ramparts and see the view. Rather windy and a bit cold, but sunny in parts, and not at all bad for the time of year!

They are off back to Oz, via Hong Kong, tomorrow.

Betty's? ....sigh.
You get transported back to a stress-free happy world of afternoon tea: sandwiches, cakes, buns, scones with butter and jam, macaroons and proper Yorkshire hospitali-tea.

It was nice. We went to Little Betty's in Stonegate, which is a little less busy than the big one. We were very well attended to. and got several cups of tea out of one pot, with the aid of some extra hot water,

NT's Mum worked in Betty's in Harrogate when she first came to the country. One day we'll take her and his Dad back there for tea!

It is nearly always peaceful and quiet here, except when the roof is being mended.

 Long story short, they ran out of tiles today. At least the roof is water-tight until they can get some more, and then get back here to finish it off. I will be collecting Leo tomorrow. ^_^ He will survive one day of bang bang thud clunk thud bank crunch clonk thud bang thud......

Chicken and chips for tea, then I will be plonking myself on the sofa!

I think the spokes were too tight...the wheel has never been really true and I've had three punctures....it's a very long story about how I came to buy it but I agree that 2 years is pathetic.......15 years would be more like it and it would expect the rim to wear out first.

Yep - that's correct these days. If your man hasn't retired I wouldn't go back (except to have a complain)

I used to get taken to Betty's in Harrogate for a treat by my gran when she lived in Boroughbridge.
She ran the sweet shop opposite the Crown Hotel before she retired when I used to stay with her on New Row but was the school-mistress at Roecliffe before that and the family ran 2 farms in the village, Happy times.
