Oh, crikey, sorry to hear all that NT and 26x25. Not much useful I can say.

If I may introduce a lighter note, today we very nearly finished cataloguing all the books at the Resource Centre.

Some people had very kindly recently donated some more books, so those were added in, at what we thought was the end. However, when doing a general tidy up of the shelves, we found about twenty more books amongst what we thought was Art Catalogues etc. I think someone just decided to try to be helpful and tidy up. By then it was gone one o'clock, so we had to finish. That is 600 books listed by author, title, publisher and categorised by topic, such as textiles, multi-cultural, craft, early years, history of art etc.

The books are now in alphabetical order, and need to be resorted into their main category. My co-volunteer and I were very pleased with our efforts. It is looking much more like a small library, and much easier to use, with books on display, and mostly tidy, with a database to search for books to suit people's requirements.

In answer to your earlier question, I think Arch decided this town exists in 1948. No, we do not have a "Greggs" or a "Subway" or any of those costalot Coffee bars. The ironmongers ressembles the shop in "Four Candles" by the Two Ronnies. You can buy one bolt or one hinge, if you so wish.

Cheers, I could do with a cuppa to rehydrate after the large scotch I've just finished.

A few years ago I had to sort out a load of books for the charity shop. My ex wife asked me to collect some black bags of books for her after she reorganised her library. I went over to collect and it was 10 large black bags stuffed with books, hundreds, maybe over a thousand, of them. Took a few days to sort them into piles for each charity shop and to remove any that I figured I should keep to one side.
Even the charity shops baulked at the quantity in their share.

I love books but I was sick of the sight of them when I was done.

One of my favourite things when out shopping or visiting a town/city is to browse the charity shops book shelves, whilst in Oxford last summer I walked out of one with about 15 books, must have spent £50 by the time I'd finished

but that's my 'break time' reading sorted for a year

Books are very heavy as well. Last time I moved house, I was advised to collect the boxes from Off-licences that bottles of wine arrive in. A box that size full of books is very heavy. My mother has hundreds of books in her house, so I am hoping she might gradually edit them, particularly as she cannot see well enough to read.

The books we are cataloguing are for reference only, sometimes on very obscure, but interesting subjects. One today was about the history of cross-stitch. Another one was on Indian (as in the Indian sub-continent) puppets. There was also a book about Matisse, and one about Gaudi. There are also less advanced subjects like Batik, making jewellery, macrame, Origami, etc. It has been a very interesting exercise. Our input will still be needed to update the database etc.

I copy the long thingummy from the address line. Then I start a new post, click on the green paperclip, next to the one that looks like you like the smiley face, but cannot see the left hand side of the dialogue box. Is there another way of doing it, another simple way, I mean

I assume you do not apply the same protocol to boxes of Profiteroles.
