Well, it was forecast to be showers all day here, but we didn't have more than a drop or two of rain, which was fortunate.

Tea? I'm doing pizza for dinner, the easy option...

Had a nice lie-in today, got up, pottered, put the laundry on...then by the time it had finished it was chucking down

coffeejo - rode the Exodus recce yesterday as far as Burrowbridge, then peeled off to Taunton and left the others to finish the full route. Thoroughly enjoyed it and you'll be glad to hear that Burrington aside, that part of the route is pretty benign!

I was up early to go to Pickering to look at steam engines and trucks.

Saw a film star, The Iron Maiden, Wynn's 'Renown' Scammell Contractor, a Saunter's Scammell Junior Constructor and Saunter's Rotinoff Atlantic. Also Marsden's Traction Engine Crane. Saw a lot of miniature traction engines and steam lorries and also watched the tractor pulling which included lorries and steam traction having a go at the pull.

It was most entertaining. Sadly I missed Renown and the Rotinoff having a tug of war with a CatD8. That would have been fun.

I spent some money on an M16 x 1.5 no2 tap and no3 tap and die, an M20 x 1.5 tap and die, a bit of aluminium plate, a Gast vacuum pump and an Edwards Vacuum pump. £52 in all.

I'm happy and just just refilled with tea.

Doesn't look like we'll be doing it after all - holiday dates and Other Stuff has forced everyone to drop out so we're planning a prolonged WNRttP instead with plans for hot chocolate under the light of the moon "in the hills somewhere". Next year ... we'll be along next year.

Anything with the word Scammell in front of it is a mahoooosive lorry, and very cool.

Unless it's a Scammell Mechanical Horse, which isn't quite so mahooosive, but even more cool, on account of being three wheeled, and cute.

They were invented to replace the horses and carts that did local deliveries once freight arrived by train - hence mechanical horse. They were the forerunner of articulated lorries, with very tight turning circles, and had a coupling mechanicsm that could be deployed almost entirely from the cab, so they were very useful for hitching up to trailers quickly, moving stuff round marshalling yards and so on.

Scammel Constructor. The junior doesn't have the driven front axle and is rated at a lower capacity, only 85 tons as opposed to 150 tons.

The vacuum pumps should have been around £100 each so to get them for only £30 the pair I was very pleased.

Hmmm ... what time for the North Curry stop?

I *think* the first riders arrive at about 1.00am so the main rush is probably about 3.00pm. If you anyone has a deep desire to hurl pasta at weary people with 1000 yard stares I can put them in touch with Dave who usually mans the stop with a couple of trusty helpers.

The mechanical horses look rather fine. I hanker after a 1950's style bus, but don't think it would be very practical
