Seen too many that I know that are just looking to feed their habits, I've grown kind of immune to them.
A few use a substance, rubbed onto the skin, below their eyes to get them to water.
The last time I went to help a "beggar", hot meal bought, he made it clear was expecting to be given. And it wasn't a hot meal in winter!
I work in retail (not out of choice i might add) and we get loads of beggars hanging around outside. Today one lady gave one of them £300. I was absolutely shocked. I asked him what he was going to do with the money. He told me he was going to pay off some of his bills and stuff. Thats great i said but I told him if i caught him buying alcohol in our store with that money then id have him thrown out as i know he was and possibly still is a bit of an alcoholic.
Its not every day that some random person gives you £300 and im not going to watch it being spent on things you dont need like alcohol - Pay your bills, buy some food to feed yourself and your family etc etc dont waste it on things you dont need.
Needless to say he was well chuffed.
regardless if the crying beggars tears were legitimate or not, It was still very hard to watch him sobbing away. though I agree, some do it just for the sake of making people part with their money more easily.
There are food banks and charities out there that will feed all these beggars and homeless types for free if not for a tuppence but most of them just carry on begging or even resorting to stealing food.
