Work hardened?
I sometimes used chemicals on a daily basis (in summer) so used to wearing hand protection plus in my ex-line of work, I wasn't picking up stuff without gloves...
litter pickers were a boon.
The public wasn't concerned with what they dropped or threw away

I can imagine some stuff is pretty scary.
Things like discarded needles is really frightening
