Funny thing about the cost of Cyprus is that we are, in a creative accounting way, saving money by going for a few months.

Last year was the first of our long trips and it started after our youngest graduated and we were no longer funding him so the money saved paid for the rent and airfares. This meant that we no longer had to save for our annual holidays. Once there the cost of living is a bit less and we aren't paying winter heating bills. Overall we triple/quadruple the holiday period but have more disposable cash. It's :sun: and :biggrin: all the way.

Above and beyond that we have a much better quality of life during the winter and that alone is worth the money. Given our age, I look upon it as being in the departure lounge of life with the flight to our final destination on a very long delay while we have a great time in duty free!

I am envious of you @Blue as I have mentioned to you before.
I realise how much better I feel in Mallorca in the warmer weather and wish I could spend longer over there during our winter.
Enjoy yourself as you have earned the right to do and don't miss an opportunity like that :okay:

You are so right. I was always determined to enjoy my hard earned retirement and so far it's going to plan - long may it continue.

Plenty of retired couples do the same. We are looking forward to seeing our winter neighbours from England and Wales and winter acquaintances from the Nordic & Baltic countries. It adds interest to life.

I think you said before that you rent an apartment? - do you always go back to the same one? Just being nosey...

Good morning everyone? Is it Friday again? Don't the days fly by when you don't work. :hello:
A sign of aging is ones perception making time seem to speed up. When you were 5 the next year was 1/5th of your previous experience so time seemed to pass slowly. At age 60 etc., the next year is just 1/60th etc., of your previous life and the smaller fractions seem to pass ever faster. If the years pass faster so do the days. Just get the anti wrinkle cream out.

We do rent and have never stayed in the same place more than twice. However, with the exception of 2 years we always stayed in the same area. The 2 different holidays were spent in a mountain village where the locals spoke only Greek as we wanted to experience the 'real' Cyprus and kick start our learning of the language. The other years we were searching for better apartments in the knowledge that we wanted to spend winters on the island. The best area for beauty of place and people was the mountain village but that wouldn't work for the winter as it would be as cold as Ireland, if not colder! However, the coastal area where we stay has more to do and we do see the nice side of the Greek Cypriots as they take us to their hearts because of my singing/speaking in Greek - most even use my Greek name rather than the English version which is something I have yet to see/hear in relation to other Brits/Irish on the island!
