Good afternoon:hello:
Got too involved with the radio stuff:blush:
Hunted the room down for a cable, I had 2 but not now? Fairies?
Have to order another:rolleyes:
It's 'Dad, have you?' and followed by 'Here's one', time to charge ^_^
Bike all shiny and mud washed off, now sparkly clean (until the woods)
A year since we got the keys to the new Towers..
Hard to believe its a year gone by..

At ease, folks...

Thanks Bobby :okay:
Hope all has gone well:okay:

Yes, the phone has rung and we are now proud owners of the bungalow. I'm just waiting for the rain to ease before I go and fetch the keys. Meanwhile I've started contacting the various contractors so that I can get some quotes/dates for the top priority work.
Congratulations on the first part, new ownership. New Year - New House.
You'll be breaking a bottle open tonight then?

It's only water, and you can only get soaked to t'skin once anyway.

After Xmas we're going into a strict lockdown similar to the one last March/April etc. It's due to be 6 weeks but with a review after 4 weeks. The first week has a near curfew from 8pm.

The NHS has been swamped but that's got a lot to do with the way it has been underfunded etc for decades so it can't cope with the extra pressure from Covid-19. In our area we have had just 128 cases in the last 7 days and the rate per 100k is just 79.6 but we are being hammered along with the rest of NI where the overall rate per 100k is 187.6.

House moves that were in the system were allowed in the first lockdown so I hope it's the same again.
Break out the bubble wrap...

Look at the curfew another way. Along with the fact that you've got the keys*, it'll mean no more night time visits.

Overloading the system is nationwide. Don't go adding to it by falling off the ceiling, or similar.

*Which you happen to have got a week after buying two lottery tickets!!

Well, we've been in and had a good look around. We're both very happy.

The Artex plaster is just in the kitchen on the walls above the high cupboards and the ceiling. I'd like to think it won't be too big a job to remove, if that's required.

The area where there was a high damp meter reading in the dining area does feel cold/damp but no staining or peeling of wallpaper so it's either minor or just cold with some condensation because the place has been empty. I'll try to get on to a local firm on Monday.

The smoke/nonenal smell wasn't bad at all so I think cleaning/airing/ redecorating will sort that without much effort.

I'm meeting the Gas engineer at the bungalow on Monday morning so that he can advise on the state of the system and quote for the upgrades I want. He's acting quickly so that he can order materials before the suppliers have to shut. I know he does a wide range of plumbing work as well as heating systems so I'll see if he can do the bathroom for us - he came as a referral and seems eager and keen so that would be handy.

The removal firm have been booked for 6th Jan so we have until then to clean etc.

Other than the kitchen and bathroom(old tiles) the walls/ceilings are either painted textured wallpaper or painted plaster and all are in great order, apart from a couple of hairline ceiling cracks, so they look like a simple enough painting job.

I'm waiting for the electrician to get back to me so that I can arrange a check of the system and some upgrading.

The surveyor did say that once I had the kitchen and bathroom refurbed it was basically a maintenance and redecoration job and that seems accurate enough.

As soon as we have the work done we'll be adopting a couple of kittens from the local rescue shelter.

Happy days by mid January and even happier days by next Summer.🤞

The work is all getting underway.

One question, what happened to slowing down?

I know, I know - I was thinking about you suggesting that as I typed that list. I was ever the same, even during my working career I just soaked up pressure but I know that whilst that brought rewards it also came at a cost. I'm my own worst enemy but this coming stricter lockdown will probably force me to slow up. When we're in cleaning and shifting boxes we can just do that at our own pace so that may help.

Said more in jest by me, because of the speed of the latest events. From getting a second choice of house to getting the keys.

Not to mention your own paperwork, drawn up and accepted.

Very wise if he is. My grass is getting to be a burden.
38 years of my life concerned grass,
cutting, strimmers, weedkilling, fertilising, spraying all sorts.
In fact we used scythes in the late 70s:laugh:
Grass has been a bit part of my life,
I've cut with tractors, ride-ons, large Scag type, cylinder, hand mowers and now my wee patch(es), a Bosch electric.
The front will be approx 10msq so white aggregate (Cotswold) will be spread, no part is actually level..
The back is a reasonable size for looking after, I don't mind cutting, Beag will be cutting it for pocket money in the far future:laugh:
Just as long as there are no feckin' hedging, beech has been planted between ours and next door but I'll train it and keep it low as a barrier.

I like grass but sadly even with basic maintenance it does need help..
I remember the good old days , the council would cut pensioners grass if they applied...

Child labour!

I'd not trust the council to take a short cut, much less cut the garden.
