If it's not been lived in for a while, windows are a dust magnet.

Will you be reusing the blinds once you've cleaned them.

Can you have a "real fire" where the house is, or is it now a smokeless zone.
It would be a smokeless zone, although I noticed one of the neighbours was using the fire last week. I wouldn't want a real fire anyway.

The blinds seem to be in good order and don't smell so I think I'll clean and keep them. I was wondering if an application of WD 40 Silicone would make them easier to raise and lower. I wouldn't want to ruin them so don't know if it would be worth trying. May have a 'google' for a solution.

Rust on the wire that holds the roller preventing it moving freely?

A bit of wet n'dry, possibly involving removal first. Keep the cords dry/clean of anything you use to free the rollers.

Good morning:hello:

Shame on me..
I still stop and look at them..

Today's Christmas cracker comes from Brenda.
Please feel free to let it rip (SING)

Not forgetting the different coloured utility paint marks on the pavements. New neighbours must have though you were up to summat when you moved.

G'day folks :hello:

Had the gas boiler in the new place serviced this morning and been in contact with an acquaintance who may be of great help in relation to the various works required when we move in.

I was picking up a curry on the way home from cleaning duties last night and heard a call from behind me that turned out to be this lady. When I told her what I was up to and that I was going to have to use the internet for contractors both her and her husband just shook their heads and said no'oooo. Turns out that she works in the trade and she is now going to put me in contact with various contractors that she has known/trusted for years and can even get me discounts. She knows about Mrs B's dementia and even offered to keep an eye on all the works for me. Just what I need as I am likely to make mistakes and not be able to get people to work promptly for me. I don't usually go for a curry on a Sunday so that was a lucky event.

As to the heating in the new place, the engineer said the boiler was only a couple of years old and the magnetic filter was clean so the system has been flushed and should be good. About 3 of the rads will be better with thermostats but beyond that I can put the refurb on the long finger.

All good so far today. Just have to move some more funds around and then get back to the new place to vacuum the box room and get some boxes moved in this evening. I'll try to get the garage swept and move my bike and wheels etc over later or tomorrow.

Busy, busy, busy!

Blimey, get out and buy a couple of lottery tickets. Try two lucky dips this time, maybe even a scratchcard.

This lady you know, that you met by chance, she's not going to be one of your new neighbours is she?

No, not one of the new neighbours - indeed, until now I didn't even know her surname. She's already on the case though as she's arranged for a builder to meet me at the new place on 4th January and she's going to come along to keep me right. She even asked if I needed someone to look after Mrs B on the day. She's also contacted a kitchens and bathrooms company and they are to get back with a date for her. What a gem no way would I have been able to get anyone on board that quickly. At least if I have quotes I can plan the work better - just in case my own sale falls through and funds are more limited for a while.

The lotto tickets are a good idea. I've never done a scratch card but I'll give one a try.:okay:

And to think you were worried about getting all that side of things sorted!!

Keep the tickets this time. You never know what'll happen next.

Got the garage swept and the 'cleaned' room vacuumed earlier, then remembered that I had put some soda crystals down the plug holes yesterday(the pedestal in the bathroom was draining very slowly). Anyway went in with boiling water, poured that in and it just sat there. Plugged the overflow and set to work with a plunger. Some gunk and hair came out but still draining poorly. Decided to unscrew the U trap - good lord!! A solid mass the size of a fist came out - I didn't examine it closely but it contained a hollow, pen like, plastic tube, plastic tooth picks and bits of wood and plastic in what looked like a mass of cotton bud heads. The old lady must have been trying to clear a blockage and losing her grip on things without knowing she could unscrew the trap.

I've seen the usual range of minor blockages before but that was something else - the domestic equal to a fatberg!xx(

That sounds about normal for these days. It's the "It'll go down the drain" attitude. Be grateful it wasn't a bottle trap.
