The local rules required runners to carry a basic kit in case of injury or bad weather rolling in.

I recall another long distance fell run called the Spelga Skyline that had quite a few peaks to climb. At, roughly, the half way point the course crossed a road and an official stopped the runners there and asked a couple of questions while taking a good look at you. If the official wasn't happy with you you were pulled from the race. Anyways, the race ended with a drop off the final peak before climbing a ditch and getting over a wall before a final few yards along a road to the finish. I got one leg over the wall and was so exhausted that I couldn't move. There I was straddling the wall until I heard movement behind me and the competitive spirit kicked in. I just lurched off the wall and waddled my way to the finish - I didn't lose my place!!

About a year after those races I wrecked my L Knee in an accident so had to quit running. Then came cycling and that's a whole different ballgame - helped my knee though!

They check what you were carrying before allowing you to start.

Sounds like The Three Peaks race.

Take it the wall was warm and dry whilst you were sat upon it.

You could try.

Or have you, and don't want to waste any more paper.

Yes, checks were made and the race was held in glorious sunshine for it's entirety. It was an achievement just to complete it.

I know I got a top 10 finish in at least one of the fell races that year but I can't recall which race(s) that was in as I ran a few of them.

I was so knackered that if I hadn't heard that possible steal of my place coming behind I may have been sat there until they came looking for me! When I got to the finish I couldn't even focus on the questions the official was asking. I ran 2 or 3 marathons under 2h 40m but nothing emptied me like that fell race.

Same to you sir. I'm just about to pour 2 glasses of Port to toast the New Year . Graham's LBV 2008, if you're interested. It's been gathering dust for the last 12 years so it's about time we got around to drinking it!:becool:
