Merely trying not to upset the natives too much. You know how it is: make it too obvious you're British and the next thing you know they're chucking stones at your pith helmet.

Nestlé, a Swiss company, are the biggest "German" coffee producers. If you drank coffee, I'd have suggested talking with a Swiss accent.

Lyons Tea is available over there. Look out for that one.

I have a very definitely "foreign" accent in Germany but people often can't place it, so sooner or later someone has a guess. Going from the most popular, people generally suggest:

American
British
Australian
Swiss
Dutch (but the person asking was Swiss, so that probably doesn't count).
