My word, it shows just how out of touch I am.

Actually, that's more true than I'd like to admit. Sometimes I see a picture from the UK on the "my ride today" thread and wonder what I'm looking at: a surprising amount can change in 20 years...
They came out advertised as a means of saving money, "boil only what you need". First one I saw, was back in the shop , broken after one weekends use.

You know, I manage to achieve that pretty well already: if I wanted two mugs of tea in the morning I's pour 2 1/2 mugs of water into the kettle.

If I wanted 1 mug I'd pour one mug of water into the kettle.

Now I've got extra technology: I use a jam jar that's a tiny bit bigger then the mug.
