Good afternoon
Been doing the touristy bit and taking a trip on the local Falkirk Wheel with Beag..
Up, along, around, along and down..
Interesting.

Touristy bits! In yer own country...
There's more than one Falkirk Wheel around the country? Are they all of similar design.
Did "The Young Un" come back down with you.
Thought the wheel took you up by going round. What were this along bit you did?

The print was more convenient by the time of costs of items and petrol there and back.
I printed a fake rock yesterday for making a geocache...
One of those old-style rubber foot pumps did a treat.
The bothy invite was something else...
The cream of Scottish climbing used it over the years,
Dry, but it was always chilly inside.
nearer the pub though....
I'd rather have that chopped pork than any other cut meat....
Off to find food..

We did use other hostelries through to Ballachulish, no problem thumbing if the walking gear on.
The 70s are my fave time....
Life got serious after that....
tbh the 60s were hellish.....

Many happy memories, I admit to getting emotional as we near the area, even all these years later.
I've done Curved Ridge on the big Buachaille,
a fair bit of bouldering (I have photographic proof)
I had planned some of the real stuff the following year,
The future Mrs M was adamant 'No' (there had been a few lives lost in the winter that year)
I thought better of it, tbh...

You get to the top, they open the gate, and you cruise through a tunnel, then do an about turn and head back....then back down...

Serious as in you were no longer a free man...

They can't take yer memories away from you.
I believe you on the bouldering, no photographic proof required.
"The Real Stuff" sounds like the title of a book, possibly a movie.
You probably did the right thing, albeit at someone else's request. Folk were starting to realise there was a world beyond their doorsteps, and they wanted to be out there. Sometimes ill equipped for the conditions.

You don't sound very convincing saying that...

Took a peek, and you certainly knew how to wow the newlywed Mrs Mhor. Walking holiday in an area you'd have gone to anyway.
Yer earlier comment of thumbing a lift makes a bit more sense now. You split, arranging to meet up where you'd planned on camping. Thought it were odd that two walkers would be picked up together. Unless the weather were really bad.
If it were lost, how'd you find it?

A decent time spent on it then. Not an on and off and next lot please!

Disco Duck?
Aye, two places..
One was open 6 days a week, but in winter was only on Friday and Saturday. The latter one was only a Friday, and I did it. It earned a cool £5; the previous one earned £2. I did 4 nights, Sat, which I shared with the bloke whose disco it was. Disco kicked off at 7, so I could work overtime as I didn't have far to travel (not in my work gear), and I never refused any overtime. Boss knew.
We did split but got regular lifts as we got to know folk, first one up got the camp ready...
Stayed through some wicked weather, we tended not to look at forecasts..
Remember waking up one Mon morning and a raod man we knew had come over to tell us they were shutting the snow gates in an hour so the tent was left standing until the future Mrs and I headed up on the sat morn to get it, all okay

And good work on updating yer blog.

Aye, I'll expand on it at some point.....

How'd you manage being in two places on the same night? Or were they seperate times totally.

Travel, no onsite caravan/room you could fall into for yer nights slumber? Especially if you'd just done overtime.

Nice of him to alert you to the fact that the road were being closed. Probably not bother doing it now. Some roads round here would be shut in winter, just barriers or cones across them. Close the same roads now and some folk "just have to use it".
Doubt there'll have been many passing by in the meantime.

so no problem tidying up..most jobs being done were 10 or 15 mins away at the most, I'd just work straight through.
It was 10 o'clock closing then.
All change in '76(?) to 11pm, we have antiquated laws up here

You got to know quite a few of the locals, my sidekick had worked on the ski place build so he knew almost everybody in the village...
not a massively populated area.
Pubs were all hotel 'public bars.'....

The person going first got the tent, it packed by into a smaller package than you think, wasn't long before the poles etc were 'hidden' in a nearby spot so it was just the flysheet etc was carried, it got regular washings and waterproofings, we have a pretty wet climate up here, another essential was a wee tranny radio in case we got tent bound which happened pretty often, a library book was always in the bag too

You could have gone up in yer work clothes, hard hat an'all. Your version of one of the village people. Saved on taxi fares...
No late night private parties allowed that you could DJ.

Wary of the two blokes who kept on turning up at first I bet. Suppose it were one advantage to the job he never thought about at the time.
Were you ever tempted to spend the night in the hotel. Only returning to the tent to pick the tent up.

You passed it onto whoever got picked up first. How long did the poles last when you started leaving them behind.
It can get wet down here, but not as wet as up there. Not as a general rule anyway.
The tranny also useful for the weather forecasts as you lay in the tent, rain hitting the flysheet. Something to read was always in the rucksack. Like yerself summat to read when tent bound.
