The 'undercarriage' area gets sore the longer I go on. Mostly due to excess moisture build up () . Seat bone area is OK, but then I don't suffer the road bounce on the turbo.

The 'road bounce' can help as to a certain degree it massages the butt, well at least it changes the pressure points and thus gives you some relief.
Is that sore as in raw sore or a painful numbness if you get what I mean.
If you have a reasonably upright sit position, i.e. you set your bars quite high and have a short stem then you could need a wider saddle.
The Specialised Toupe is favoured by many and this one is going at £25:

I will be running 28 scwalbe Ones. The conti 4 seasons are a tough but sufficiently supple tyre to be both puncture proof, comfortable and fast.
bob how would u compare the ones to 4 seasons as I find the 4 season don't roll as good as the stock giant slr1 that came with bike but grip better

I actually have the pro ones now- forgot. Run tubeless like the Ones they are just lovely. Fast, supple and yet sticky. Slr 1 were fast but I had problems with punctures but may have been unlucky

I've had a word with the group manager and told him to pay more attention in future. He said you're now in the group.

Great, unfortunately I have to do the rides again then... Hmmm, it's rainy and stormy weather outside the next couple of days, so I might me able to squeeze in a few sessions. The HID (what does it mean?) is away the whole weekend, meaning I have to stay home anyway and keep the children happy, fed and not fighting.

Hi all

@Whorty I have the 'conti four seasons' on my commuter and they're very decent. Somewhere between the 'gp4k's' which are quicker but not as durable, and the gatorskins which are more durable but not as sprightly. As others have said get 25's rather than 23's.

With regards the saddle I'd get on the case asap mate. Give yourself a chance to test ride more than one over a decent distance out on the road. As AAAC said cushioning level can be overrated. It's definitely a see what fits your butt best thing. More expensive doesn't mean better, probably just lighter.

I'd say don't scrimp with the bib shorts though. You can pay more depending on the label attached but it's vital you're happy with the padding and fit. If either of these things are a bad fit it can cause big problems. Not trying to scare you but I'd definitely buy a few pairs in different sizes and styles, pick a favourite, and send back the ones that don't work for you. Just buying one pair is a bit of a punt in my opinion.

Gloves are going to be important too. I don't know what Halfords range is like but I'd try a few pairs. Personally I've gone back and fourth a bit but I think on balance I prefer the ones with gel in the palms as opposed to different variations of padding.

I'd leave the rack at home too mate. How much do you really want to carry? As kipster says there's a danger you load up with things on principle but don't really need. A saddle bag and a cycling jersey with back pockets should do nicely.

He'll need a rack for all those shorts and saddles he is trying!

Carl I will be taking a under seat tool kit small, 2xinner tubes, a top tube bag for easy access to my snack, which will be 4x60g flapjack or similar snack. 2 bananas in back pocket. My phone aswell. My tyres are 28mm tubeless Pro ones from Schwalbe.

My gearing is a little unusual to most but has proved perfect for climbing for me.
