Perfect. Just like we'd rehearsed it! ^_^

Thanks for the encouragement kip. Was convinced Bill was going to reel me in but the hill steepened just in time for me to get a between rhythm and gain a handful of seconds again.:heat:

Well done Rick! Did you stay with my ghost the whole way or did you and it meet up at the end? I seem to remember quite an erratic ride on my quickest (Thursday) time so if you'd tried to draft me the whole way it could have worked against you.

It was a bit all over the place. There was a time that you Adam and Bridgey were close together and I drafted at that point then you broke away and I followed but like you say it was a bit erratic! When it was a slight decline I found I pulled ahead a bit but it was the opposite when it was slightly inclined. so it was a bit to and fro. In the final third I pulled ahead by about 10 seconds and held it til the hill. As Kip said you pulled along side me but I managed to get away again somehow. Tough race! If it was a live race you would have beaten me I'm sure.

Sounds brutal...

Sounds brutal

Agree £70 is steep (even with an umbrella!) Even with closed roads and the rest I don't think I really want to pay that much for what they're offering. I'm going to take kipsters advice and I've planned a bit of a rough calendar around rides with smaller infrastructure.
Tish and pish to your £70 I've signed up (stupidly) for the London Revolution which was £184 . Two days with camping and a lovely 185 route, anyone who's seen my times on the league will know I'm in serious trouble.

Rick, great time! It's a darned hard ride isn't it. My heart rate was over 160 almost the whole time. Not looking forward to a re run.
Using the old calculation of 220 - your age I should max out at about 177 but anything over 170 on my heart rate and the world all goes a bit dark around the edges.

Once asked a cardiologist friend what would happen if I took my heart beyond vmax. Apparently in a normal healthy heart this is pretty difficult to do a bit like holding your breath until you pass out. Worst case scenario probably is a pass out and then wake up when it has all calmed down. He did also say something along the lines of scenario B being a not so healthy heart that will just go pop. Didn't like the sound of that so I ignored him.

I don't use the hrm too often but I find it hard to hit 170!
These days 170 has become pretty hard to hit for me. Imagine my surprise to have peaked at 177 on the run to set a time for the handicap league. I'm going to consider that a positive as it means I've got more headroom than I previously thought.

Alas I can remember 200+ peaks and sustained low 190s climbing up Little Cottonwood many many years ago. I'll never see those #s again.
