Last time you were exactly a minute slower than Kipster. Unfortunately you lost 15 seconds in rounding.
I'll adjust it to 10:45, which should put you on course to meet at the finish line! :hyper:

Dropping from Active 7 to Amateur 8 is surely not a true reflection on your form, which is why I asked how much slower you thought you would be than your last ride (22:49). Dropping you from 14:10 to 8:30 would just mean you had a lonely ride several minutes ahead of the rest of the field and spoiled the finish.

Taking a look at your current Chaingang league results, in both stages you were of Rick and Roleur, but behind the fantastic four.

Do you think if you start at 12:50, that would give you a fair shot?

Geoff
No, no. You are the race umpire, and your decision is final, I shall step up to the plate and take your cruel rounding (up) like a man. 11 minutes it is, and I'll try to hook onto Kipster and Bridgy when they scoot by.

The more the merrier - we'll all roll over the line like this :hugs:

Do you want to check your calculator as lots starting before me are faster than me:crazy: im sure I should be nearer the early starters ^_^

As far as I can see, no-one starting before you has recorded a faster time than you (30:20 in motion)?

Mrs GW is obviously impressed with my dramatic weight loss since i started with this malarky, and has decided she wants to have a go on the turbo.

No way would she be able to manage on my bike, so i decided to fork out for her own machine. I thought I'd get an extra Bkool quick release skewer for my classic 2 machine to make the change over of bikes that bit quicker.

Bkool wanted to charge me £18 plus for postage - can you believe it, that's more than I paid for Mrs GW's bike (but I'll keep that one to myself).;)

Pro skewers seem to be plentiful, but It wasn't easy to find an alternative supplier of the Classic skewer.

So if anyone out there needs one, Evans Cycles was the only supplier I could find.

Mrs GW is sorted and it will be interesting to see how she gets on.

I think we are going to need a separate thread for taking the mickey out of handicaps... :surrender:

The point of the handicap system is to give a close finish for as many people as possible.

The formula for setting the handicaps is designed to reduce the chance of an over performance resulting in an early starter never being caught by the pack and hence romping away to a solo finish, so initially it errs slightly on the side of caution, as trailing in a little behind only affects that one person, whereas winning by miles affects everyone.

As you record finishes your handicap is adjusted and you are given more credit for each finish, as it is based on the best time from multiple runs, and therefore the chance of over performance is reduced.

The only circumstances under which a handicap should need adjusting is if your form has changed radically or if a previous run was unrepresentative of your abilities (due to a glitch perhaps). I am more than happy to agree a different handicap that will lead to a closer finish.

If anyone really thinks their handicap should be changed, perhaps they could PM me with what they think it should be and why!

That way I can safely ignore the jibes posted here! ;)
